All Meat Wieners are fine in cars. Overheated Huskies or Chihuahuas not so much.
P E T C A R E — My dear friend Bette in Seattle, THE dog care champion of the world, has written another great column with tips and reminders about carrying your pets in cars during the summer. Please read if you have pets. Please read even if you don't. I had to report a car to the courtesy desk at my grocery store last week because a VERY hairy mutt was barking his little head off in a hot car with the windows lowered just two inches. To my delight, the clerk got on the loudspeaker immediately, and after giving the car's description and licence tags ID, gave the person ONE minute to get outside and take their dog out of the car or she would call the police and have the windows broken to get the dog out—I think it must not have been the first time someone had complained about a pet in a hot car. Are people really that stupid? It worked, and the woman got in her car and drove away without finishing her shopping, but I would have liked to have had her arrested anyway.
Check out Bette's column here. And you can always find a link for "Walking The Dog" in my blog roll at the right.
THANK YOU!!! Good for you...doing the right thing isn't always easy, but you prob saved the dog's life that day...What is wrong with people anyway?
ReplyDeleteI don't take our pooch if it is too hot OR too cold out (gets bitter here) Our car does have an automatic starter so I can leave him for a bit if I am just running in and weather isn't TOO much one way or the other...If it's chilly he has a blanket and if it is warm (NOT HOT) he gets the windows down a bit in case I get detained...and if that happens I go and check on him!
Your friend has an excellent blog..i have enjoyed visiting it.

I SAW THAT HOTDOG TRUCK YEARS AGO IN FRONT OF THE STORE I SHOPPED AT IN UPSTATE N.Y..I THOUGHT AT THE TIME WHAT A FUN JOB IT WOULD BE GOING AROUND THE COUNTRY MAKING PEOPLE SMILE. NOW, I WISH I HAD ASK THOSE GIRLS THAT HAD THAT JOB HOW COULD I WORK FOR THEM. THEY WERE HANDING OUT HOT DOG WHISTLES. I WISH I HAD THAT WHISTLE TODAY. WHY? I DON'T KNOW.

i saw the Wienermobile on the highway once. What a hoot! I bet you would have been great working in one, with your personality! I bet they couldn't have made enough hot dogs for you to sell!
ReplyDeleteabout the whistle, i love marketing tie-ins like that. I have some Mr Peanuts salt-n-pepper shakers and a bunch of other things with old company names on them.
