Back in the early 1970s, there was a lot of talk about possible VW Beetle replacements. Of course, Giugiaro would be tapped to create the eventual successor, the absolutely brilliant front-engined, front wheel drive Golf (Rabbit to the USA), but I was thinking more along the lines of an updated rear-engined car. To that end, I created this "211" when I was about 15-16 years old, doodles on an old piece of onionskin paper. The "luxury" 411 had been recently introduced in the States, so I dubbed this small VW the 211. Note that I even thought about shock absorber placement, lol. I gave it 4 wheel disc brakes, horribly proportioned tires, and a sporty profile, not at all retro, or even related to the Beetle. At least I got that part right, the Golf looked forward 100% and never looked back. Until the New Beetle of the '90s of course.

Good Morning, Granny. Hope Gramps gets everything fixed!
ReplyDeleteIT DRIVES ME CRAZY WHEN HE DOES A JOB KNOWING HOW QUICKLY HE USED TO GET JOBS DONE YEARS AGO. I'M JUST LUCKY HE CAN STILL FIX THINGS AND SEEMS TO ENJOY DOING THE WORK. I GOT A WINNER. WE'RE IN THE 4TH DAY AND COUNTING.THE WATER IS TURNED OFF BECAUSE OF THE JOB IN THE BATHROOM. SOME HOW HE FIX THE WATER LINES WHEN HE BOUGHT THE HOUSE SO HE CAN TURN THE WATER ON OUTSIDE. SO AT LEAST WE CAN BRING WATER IN LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS. [BUCKETS] IT'S BETTER THAN HAVING A WELL. DO YOU REMEMBER EVER HAVING A WELL FOR WATER? MY GRANDMOTHER HAD ONE. WE WOULD HAVE TO PUMP THE WATER THAN CARRY IT ACROSS THE YARD INTO THE KITCHEN.[FOR COOKING, BATHS AND ETC] FUN DAYS EXCEPT WHEN THE RED ROOSTER WOULD CHASE ME. BOY, HE TASTED GOOD THAT SUNDAY FOR DINNER. J/K
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
we always had wells for water, but I don't remember having to pump it outside. I never had 'city' water until I moved here. sometimes it's better. it doesn't taste as good but it's more plentiful. living near the water, we always had to be careful with out drinking water. we'd go dry in the middle of summer pretty often.
ReplyDeleteMY GRANDDADS' WELL WAS THE FIRST IN THE VILLAGE. TODAY THEY MAY ARGUE THE POINT BUT I KNOW DIFFERANT. GRANDDAD WOULD LEAVE A DIPPER AT THE WELL FOR ANYONE THAT NEEDED A DRINK WHEN PASSING BY. HOW COOL IS THAT? ALSO WOULD SHARE THE WATER WITH ANYONE THAT NEEDED SOME. I NEVER EVER REMEMBER IT RUNNING DRY. MAYBE BECAUSE HE SHARED. THE OLD PUMP IS STILL THERE BUT NOT IN USE ANYMORE SINCE CITY WATER CAME THROUGH YEARS AGO.MY BROTHER OWNS THE LAND NOW. MY AUNT AND UNCLE BUILT AN INSIDE BATHROOM BEFORE SELLING THE PLACE TO MY BROTHER. THEY WERE TO CHEAP TO PUT THE SEWERS IN WHEN THEY CAME BY. HE'S ALWAYS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE OLD SEPTIC TANK BUT HE'S ALSO CHEAP LOL. JUST A FAMILY THING I GUESS. NOT ME. ASK AND IT'S YOUR IF I DON'T NEED IT.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
GRANNY, WE HAVE A WELL AND A SEPTIC TANK HERE WHERE I LIVE NOW! WE'RE HAVING SOME PLUMBING PROBLEMS SO WE HAVE A PLUMBER COMING TOMORROW. I HOPE HE DOESN'T ASK ME WHERE TO TURN THE WATER OFF! LOL
ReplyDeleteOH, AND OUR WATER TASTES HORRID!
