Considering my recent contest entry, I thought it would be good karma to place a few of my Studebaker and Packard scale models in my late-18th century secretary, a place of prominence in my life. There is a small (1:43) 1953 Packard Caribbean convertible in lavender to the left. Next to it are two representations of the 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk, a 1:24 and a 1:87, Matchbox-sized. I also have a beautiful 1934 Packard speedster in bright red from one of the mints, but can't quite put my finger on it right now, lol. You know I'll be in the attic looking for it tomorrow!
Casey,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought of being an archivist? lol
You have the biggest collection of stuff I've ever seen, especially on one website.
I don't even think I can go back as 12 years as far as what I have present in my house. Oh! I have a 25 year old TV but that doesn't count, does it? : )
My TV is going on 10 years old... I've seen displays with 50 year old TVs, those really cool 1950s models. I'm not sure they would still work, with the tubes and all that, but look great in a period way. It's almost ridiculous the amount of stuff I've collected and saved, especially without a plan for the future of them, lol.
ReplyDeleteCASEY, I HELD ON TO SO MUCH STUFF UNTIL THIS LAST MOVE WHEN I TOLD MY DAUGHTER GO AHEAD AND TAKE WHATEVER SHE WANTED FOR HER AND MY OTHER DAUGHTER AND JUST GET RID OF WHATEVER. IT IS LIKE GETTING RID OF THE PAST. NOW,I'M MISSING ALOT OF THE THINGS. BUT IT'S OK. I CAN'T TAKE THE THINGS WITH ME WHERE I'M GOING. MY NEEDS WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF. I CAN'T CARRY EXTRA BAGGAGE ANYWAYS. I'M LEAVING THIS EARTH NAKED AS A JAY BIRD WHEN I GET TO GO. LOL PS. [WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN BEFORE YOU DO, I'LL DRILL A HOLE AND PULL YOU THROUGH.] LOL.
ReplyDeleteHI WOODY. HUGS TO YOU.
GRANNY
Was just thinking last night how I wish I had a studebaker (dumb, maybe...but I was daydreaming about it after I saw one on a show!) Next to a mustang, these cars are just THE BOMB! SO special looking although I should look up and read their history as we know I don't know anything about cars except what catches my eye!
ReplyDeleteoh! there's the VW van peeking out...so awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove the shelves...am looking for some to set out my few "treasures" on...no luck yet..will keep up the search..

I have photos of the secretary somewhere on my HD, i'll find them. It dates back to the late 1700s, and was probably handmade locally. It was "updated" in the 1920s with a some dividers and additional shelves subdividing the original two shelves. I'd take the updates out, but they're interestingly made out of an old wooden crate. One side of a divider still has the indented finger grip! They were put in by my mother's great uncle, so they'll stay as long as I have it, which will be as long as I'm alive! The bottom has a fold-out cover to make a writing desk, and the entire thing is only about 6'2", which was as high as the ceilings on the second floor of the old house were! It almost looked like a built-in in that house. I think it might have been built in the house actually.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the original Caribbean particularly those without the continental kit. CA had a wonderful picture of one without the continental kit many years ago. Unless it's actually a Continental, I don't see any need for a Continental kit! I also didn't care for the two-tone paint treatment that Packard used on the 54 Caribbean. It seemed so unnecssary. The 55 and 56 versions were just magnificent, particularly the 56 with the reversible seat cushions. Well, you know I'm a big Packard fan so there you are. Speaking of Packards, have you read the new CA? I know you said you had it.

GOOD NIGHT CASEY.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
G'Night Granny, thanks, as always, for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteWell...I was a little disappointed with the outcome of Project Runway, but Giants are winning, so life is good.
ReplyDeleteMare: You mentioned American Pickers in one of the threads I can't find now, lol. I've seen parts of that show before, but those two make me nervous! All through the years, first with my family, and now with me, we've had people like that come and ask to look through our stuff, or say they're friends with someone and they heard we had something they'd be interested in. I always send them away, as did my family. When my mom died, a woman came to my door and told me she'd buy her jewelry BY THE POUND and that I'd never get a better offer. I almost threw her off the porch. I think people that buy old stuff like that almost always gip the original owners because they want to make money, not pay money. I suppose the vultures will descend when I'm gone, but I won't have to worry about them by then.
ReplyDeleteAnnie: I don't watch Runway, but I'm glad the Giants are ahead so far!
Oh Oh, they just updated the weather and we might get a frost tomorrow night through monday night. darn. I'll have to bring some more plants in tomorrow. It's always something. I wonder if I should cut a lot of the flowers.... I'm so close to the water though, we tend to be 3-4 degrees warmer than what they say on TV. It's going to happen one of these nights though. I have to find some pots, I'll probably dig up the two small dahlias that never bloomed.

39 degrees here right now, suppose to hit 29 degrees at 6 am, I will be cozy under my quilt by then. lol
ReplyDeleteI often think of my great-grandparents in their spare little house heated only by a fireplace, they truly must have been a hardy lot.
Casey with those experiences, I can see why you wouldn't care for this show! Didn't even think of that. I was just pleased to see these two "rescuing" many of the things from rundown buildings that were literally falling down into themselves and find rusting and rotting items. Many of the places they explore are on land that isn't lived on anymore and the people don't know what to do with all the "stuff" of a family member who was a gatherer and is gone. They also visit a lot of people who are collect things at garage sales, etc for resale.like themselves. I also appreciated seeing them offer more than someone asked when the person had no idea what it would be worth. In one episode, they just walked the people through what things could be worth and told them they should go ahead with the auction they had planned as they could get more out of it that way. Was interesting to hear it from the other (your) perspective...and btw, I'm surprised you didn't throw that woman off your porch!!!! wow! that took a lot of nerve on her part! I'll be interested to watch it again, and try to look at it from your point of view...I hang on to very little so find this interesting (but do I ever love to look through YOUR things and kind of wish I had been able to hang onto more! :)You have inspired me to think twice before disposing of things and possibly re-purposing them.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't get frost! We were in the 20's last night...and it was a chilly one...thankful for a nice down comforter! :)
Have a great night everyone...

hey Mare:
ReplyDeletewell now I might have to watch another episode. Maybe I just watched a few minutes that weren't really representative. it's funny, but I'll get these visceral responses almost immediately about something like a TV show, or a restaurant, or a location that I just don't like and then I refuse to watch it again, or go there again or whatever. They're probably all triggered by something in my past... calling Dr Freud!
