The limited depth of field in this photo is what gives it a mystical appearance, at least to me. I had my camera set on "close up" view, meaning anything within two feet would be in focus, but beyond that, the background would be a bit blurry. Usually I use this for my extreme close ups of flowers. I was shooting this brand new-to-bloom white dahlia bud as the subject. Only the stem, leaves and the bud itself were within the range of focus though, meaning 90% of the rest of the photo is a bit blurred. Add in the bright sun and my camera's limited usage in lighting conditions like that, and you get this very 3D looking image, tightly focused on the small bud, stem and leaves, but with the rest of the photo fading away an in an almost impressionist type of way. The blurry pink cosmos play with the rest of the out of focus background to create this ethereal garden shot. The angled horizon line, determined by the strong right angle with the cedar post at the lower right, adds to this image's coolness factor. This is one of my favorite photos from the past summer and fall, so far!
Very cool!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a little Kodak EasyShare C613, how different is that from yours Casey? I'm not much of an experimenter with various settings, but maybe I should try. Your photo is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT THE PICTURE I THOUGHT HOW COOL. IT WAS JUST VERY INTERESTING TO LOOK AT. IT'S AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH A CAMERA. GRAMPS HAS A CAMERA FROM WAY BACK WITH ALL THE SETTING.IT ALSO HAD A LIGHT METER THAT YOU HELD IN YOUR HAND. I'M SURE IT'S AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE. I'D PUT YOU IN THE WILL,LOL, IF I COULD FIND IT. I JUST BET IT'S IN HIS ROOM SOMEWHERE HIDDEN.
ReplyDeleteYOU GIRLS SURE GET UP EARLY. I DON'T GET UP EARLY AND I DON'T LIKE TO GET UP TO LATE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT IT TO INTERFERE WITH MY NAPTIME. I KNOW HA, HA, HA. OH WELL, I FIND I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT AT THIS AGE. I'VE DONE FOR OTHERS ALL MY LIFE. NOW IT'S TIME FOR ME.
HELLO TO WOODY,PX,PAUL,ISH AND ALL THE GUYS THAT PEEK. FEEL FREE TO KICK ME TO THE SIDE AND GET TALKING SHOP WITH CASEY.
HAVE SOME FUN TODAY AND I'LL BE DREAMING ABOUT YOU ALL WHEN NAPTIME COME IN AWHILE. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
CASEY, YOUR SPECIAL.

Good morning! I'l be out this afternoon, but will be back tonight to put up some updates.
ReplyDeleteAnnie: the closeup setting it usually a flower, as opposed to a mountain for long distance settings etc. You should definitely go out and try your camera at the different settings and see what happens!
Good morning all...
ReplyDeleteCasey, do you mind if I jump in on the cameras?
Yours was considered a small upgrade to Casey's Annie, they are really quite similar in how they work. I don't think yours has a viewfinder while casey's does and yours is 6.2 effective pixels and I believe Casey's is 4.0 (I never pay a ton of attention to the pixels though, but that is one of the differences )
On yours Annie, the ISO goes higher. Even the exposure compensation is close.
I love Kodak cameras and have owned..hmmm, too many!
Please correct me Casey,if I have mispoken. I think you should get some great photos with yours as well Annie..(of course, photo shop is our friend for SOME of us -or maybe I'm just lazy!!)
Annie, you might go to Pbase and check out some actual photos taken with both cameras...it is a sight that has tons of pics from different cameras..I always go there to compare when I'm looking at a new camera..which is too often I'm afraid.
Anyway, not sure if that helped at all but hope so...
mare
makes me think...time to hit ebay and list a couple extra kodaks I have hanging around!! :)
that's great info, Mare, thanks. I don't really know a lot about cameras! I would love to use some of my antique film cameras, but it's just too difficult to get film and have it developed, to say nothing of the cost too.
ReplyDeleteHey Mare, thanks for the information. The little booklet that came with the camera did tell much. Then I would see Casey's and telling how he show this one and that, made me think there might be more to this little camera than meets the eye.
ReplyDeleteI had a really nice Canon (film type) with a great array of lenses. Gave the darn thing away on my last move, Wish I had known you then Casey.
Thanks again Mare. Appreciate the information.
GOOD MORNING CASEY,
ReplyDeleteDID YOU GET LOST YESTERDAY? I HOPE YOUR NOT SICK. COLDS ARE GOING AROUND. SO FAR,I'M ALRIGHT. GRAMPS IS OUTSIDE. I'M HOPING HE'S WASHING THE MAZDA. IF NOT,I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GET ON HIS CASE ABOUT IT. HE WON'T PAY ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING SO IT'S JUST WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW HE DOES THE THINGS HE DOES AT HIS AGE. MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT STAYING BUSY. NAPTIME YET? LOL
GRANNY
G'Morning!
ReplyDeleteI have a pretty bad headache, didn't sleep well either. I left my camera somewhere yesterday, will have to search for it when I feel better. It might be a few hours until I can think of something to post today. Oh well, not every day is perfect, lol.
