My Comcast internet/phone/TV have been off for almost 5 hours. My phone had a dial tone but I couldn't dial out. My high-speed modem was all lit up like the proverbial Christmas tree and it still wouldn't work. I wired and rewired everything. I turned everything off and shut the power strip off for 10 minutes. I cleared the cache, I deleted the history, I filed all my extraneous files onto a spare hard drive. ARGGGHH. Then at precisely midnight, the TV came on, went off, came on, went off, and now everything is working again. It had to be Comcast resetting or doing maintenance or SOMETHING, but I with they would let their customers know!!! I really should get a cell phone so when my Comcast bundle has problems, I can still call them to report it. But my landline only rings once or twice a week, and I call out less than that, so I really can't justify the expense of a cell phone, lol.
Oh well. I'll be over it all by morning and will try to rewrite the post I was in the middle of when everything went off. Have a good night everyone, if you're still awake that is. I'm grabbing a Sam Adams and calm down!
Sorry you are having those problems. We had two blackouts over this way in the past month, so I can empathize, Casey.

We had a cell phone for emergencies and somehow lost it. We hardly noticed it was missing ! We have now cancelled it and are like you: Cell-free.
I have a old fashioned dial phone right here. Its built like the USS Monitor. I wish I could get it to work. Having the last landline reveals the awful state of the
old standard telephone. Rotten !
I am sure you can relate. If not, tell me where to get a good landline telephone that doesn't slip out it's cradle , fall on the floor and bust into five pieces. Please!

Oh, man, Casey. I know just what you mean!! If only they'd tell us the cable was out or they were doing maintenance, we wouldn't work on our computers for an hour or two trying to get them working again! ARGHHH is right!

Sometimes I wish I could get my vintage phones to work. My landline is a faux Blackberry type of contraption. It's tiny and has tiny buttons. Worse, it has a separate keyboard to the right, so the actual numerals don't have the letters on them like old phones do. So if I see a phone number like 1-800-Old-Autos or whatever, I've had to print out a facsimile of the old telephone keypad so I can dial the stupid number! Apparently the phone can send text messages, but I've never received a text, never sent a text and can't ever see myself using that feature. I type enough as it is!

FOR THE LAST TWO NIGHTS I KNOW FOR SURE I TURNED THE COMPUTER OFF BUT WHEN I OPEN THE THING UP THE COMPUTER WAS ON. SO MAYBE SOMEONE HAS HAS GOTTEN INTO MY COMPUTER. IF SO I HOPE THEY HAVE FUN. MY LIFE IS QUITE DULL.

I have a landline and vintage looking phone from Pottery Barn! It has buttons that look like a dial and it works fine. I would never give up my landline -- not that I use it much but it's nice to know that even in a blackout you can call out or get calls in! Since I'm still on dial up at home I could even use my computer in a blackout! I have a cell phone but every time I turn it on I have to charge it -- the only times it is on and charged is when I rent a car or am away from home alone.

Granny, hackers can't turn your computer on if you have turned it off. I don't know what would explain it being on when you turned it off -- that's pretty weird, but it's not hackers. :)
