The sky reflected in a shallow pond, burnished autumn leaves dropping and floating and marsh grasses weaving and swirling in the water... all contribute to this abstract scene. Seen from the boardwalk shortcut I take into the middle of town everyday. Box turtles galore live here, and it's a rare day when careless debris and environmental toss-aways aren't littering this bit of beauty. I'm amazed that people can just toss their Starbuck's coffee cups, CVS paper bags, and other stuff into this little world. Last year, there was even a metal shopping cart tossed in here for a few weeks.
CASEY, DID YOU MAKE THIS LARGER YO LOOK AT IT? THE COLORS ARE SO PRETTY. THE PICTURE IS SO NEAT. THANKS FOR SHARING.

my camera doesn't have the "megapixels' to make photos very large, but I can usually print them out pretty well on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I'm going to print out about 500 photos that I've made for this blog and use them in my next series of art. I'm working on the backgrounds of them now.
ReplyDeleteCASEY, I'VE BEEN WANTING TO ASK YOU FOR A WHILE, HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO FINISHING YOUR BOOK? I DO HOPE YOU WORK ON IT AND GET IT OUT TO THE PUBLIC.THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE EDUCATION. YOUR LIFE WOULD BE A GOOD READ TO ALL ON WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH AS A CHILD. I WOULD BUY THE FIRST BOOK FOR SURE. IT MIGHT JUST OPEN THE EYES OF MANY. SO MANY THINK GAY FOLK MAKE THE CHOICE TO BECOME GAY. I JUST HOPE YOU FINISH THE BOOK.

I'm actually no closer to writing it all than I was last year, but I'm the type that will start, and finish, the entire book in 2 weeks once I make time and have my head clear on it all, lol. I tend to work 20 hours a day when I'm motivated.
ReplyDeleteI remember your post when we had to find the box turtles in the photo. The first thing I thought of when I saw this picture was picture puzzle - how maddening would this one be?
ReplyDeleteNothing like a snowy day, a good bottle of wine and a jigsaw puzzle to work on. When we use to go to Squaw Valley for Christmas ski trips we always had a puzzle to work on. Everyone got very territorial about the section they were working on at the time. lol
I wonder if there are companies that make jigsaw puzzles out of photographs? That would be a really different item to sell if I ever get an art show together again. A lot of people can't buy a piece of art at a show, but if there was something they could bring home with a representation of the art they saw, for $20 or less, I bet they would sell well. An idea to think about and research. thanks, Annie!
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember seeing that somewhere - 'turning your photos into puzzles' If I stumble upon it I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to have at an art show. Note cards too..........
Down here in NJ you can have a photo made into a jigsaw puzzle at the photo dept of CVS. I don't think they're very big puzzles though. Just fyi...
ReplyDeleteWonderful pic, Casey!
thanks, Katie! I'm going to do some prints at the CVS in town, to make note cards, so I'll check out the puzzle thing too.
ReplyDeletewell "middle of nowhere" is just about right!
ReplyDeleteJust got around to catching up on the blog -- you mention making puzzles out of photos. When I was a child, my uncle was a milk man and got a lot of solicitations from truck dealers and the like. One Christmas, he took a calendar that the White dealer sent him and made jigsaw puzzles out of all of the calendar pictures -- I was thrilled! Late 40s trucks were so much more interesting than current ones -- now they all look alike!
