The other late afternoon I was in my bedroom reading—a very small room with two large windows. I noticed the light streaming in through those windows kept changing intensity and the shadows cast by my various belongings kept changing as well. I propped myself up and looked outside and was greeted by these "Cecil B. DeMille" clouds as the sun was setting. I was mesmerized and shot about 25 photos before the sun finally set. Enjoy!
The cloud formation and greyish color remind me of the early 19c paintings of the English industrial revolution by way of smoke stacks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skies!
ReplyDeleteFALL BUTTERMILK SKIES.

Beautiful, Casey. Thanks for posting these.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both the DeMille reference and Woody's 19th century one. I will add one more-I call these Dinosaur Skies. The Dinosaur books I had a child featured scenes with ominous ,magnificent skies such as these.
Again, wonderful photos, Casey.

Thanks, everyone! I took some more cool shots of the skies over the Long Island Sound today. I took a 2 hour walk and it rained a little bit, but the interesting parts were the clouds. They kept changing every few minutes. I'll have them up in a few days, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteMALIBU. DO YOU SELL REAL ESTATE IN MALIBU? I SAW ANOTHER PERSON ON THE COMPUTER THE OTHER DAY AND HIS NAME WAS MALIBU FROM MALIBU,ALSO. I THOUGHT OF YOU.I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH SITE I WAS ON BUT I DID THINK THAT IT WAS INTERESTING AT THE TIME. HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU.
ReplyDeleteCASEY, FALL IS IN THE AIR.
IT'S EXCITING FOR ME BECAUSE THE HEAT IS SLOWING DOWN THANK GOD. IT WOULD BE SO FUN JUST TO PUT A SWEATER ON AND TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE FALLEN LEAVES. I ALWAYS LIKED THE SMELL OF THE LEAVES BURNING. NOW NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO BURN THEM ANYMORE. TO ME IT WAS PART OF THE FALL SMELL IN THE AIR.OH FOR THE OLD DAY.

Hello Granny,
ReplyDeleteI live down the way from Johnny Carson's old home and it is obscene what it sold for .That is to say, I wish I sold real estate.
I am very well, thanks.Nice to hear from you.

I loved the smell of burning autumn leaves, too! I think we can get a permit for it on certain days, if the weather conditions are OK, but it's rarely done.
ReplyDeleteAP: I smile whenever I hear Johnny Carson's name. My parents always watched The Tonight Show when I was a kid. Even though it came on hours after I went to bed, I was always a night owl, and would lay awake in my room and wait for Doc Severinson's awesome intro. I couldn't hear the TV perfectly, not every word, but I got enough of his monologue and guests to know I enjoyed that type of quick banter and conversation. I watched him quite a bit as I got older and stayed up that night. I'd say late night TV has never been the same since he retired.
Hey Casey,
ReplyDeleteI have similar happy memories of Johnny!
As my brother and I got older, my mom started letting us stay up for Johnny . 7th grade, or so : 'Half way-through and then to bed..."she'd say. Man, did we feel grown up!
I have never seen the house ,only the gate, guard house and drive . It's hidden behind giant Coral trees. I hear its huge. Bob Newhart supposedly visited and asked Johnny ' So, which way to the Gift Shoppe ? "
I dont know what is more astounding: the fact that Johnny bought three other houses, had them torn down and made a private tennis arena, or that someone nowadays has that kind of money to buy and use it...
Autumn leaves are the best. I sometimes throw a few in the fireplace and go outside and sneak a sniff!

MALIBU, I FOUND THE GUYS' NAME AGAIN. IT WAS ON TWITTER, [MADISION MALIBU]. I JUST THOUGHT THE NAME WAS INTERESTING. I FOR ONE LIKE IT.JOHNNY CARSON WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE. NO ONE CAN FILL HIS SHOES.I'D NEVER WANT TO BE SO BIG THAT I'D NEEDED A GUARD AT MY FRONT DOOR [GATE] OR BACK. BY THE WAY I LIKE THE NAME ANDY ALSO. NOW GO TAKE A SWIM.LOL
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Madison Malibu is pretty funny, considering I live in Madison and Andy in Malibu.
ReplyDeleteAndy: One of the things I find most interesting about getting to "know" people through blogs, is how many shared experiences we all have in common, ie Johnny Carson. I remember when I could first stay up for his monologue. I felt so grown up, too! Of course, in reality, if we knew each other, we'd find these things out too, in conversation, over years probably, but the internet has opened up such an avenue of conversation. I can't imagine how different the world would be if the internet had been invented in the 1920s or '30s!
ooohhh, ahhhhh...perfect sky!
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I chuckled about Johnny Carson and how everyone liked him...looking back, I see his humor more, BUT growing up he wasn't very much appreciated. I THINK (just my opinion) that since he came from a town not too far from us, my parents might have thought "who does he think he is.." Don't know this for a fact, but kinda seemed that way...find it a bit amusing now I guess...and as an adult, I find some of the carson skits to be fantastic!

Hi Malibu *waving madly*...has been a wild year and I don't get to post as I'd like, but peek in as often as I can!
