One of the greatest singers of modern times has died, Ms. Whitney Houston. I rode in an elevator with her once back in the early '90s, at a posh New York hotel, the Parker Meridien. For all of perhaps two minutes, I was standing next to greatness. She was having a heated argument with a friend, lol. I was trying to pretend I wasn't there, but she was staying at the penthouse, and I was only one floor below. It was one of those New York Moments you don't forget. And just to say again, as I've been honest in this blog, with the life I've led, I really don't know why I'm still around and an equally troubled soul has left us. So sad. RIP.
JUST FEEL SICK BECAUSE OF THIS GREAT LOST.

Me too, Granny. It's really hit me for some reason. I wouldn't have predicted I would be so sad. Listen to the last song I posted, I Look to You.
ReplyDeleteCasey, your still around because we all HONESTLY care about you! And WE all BELIEVE in you even when your offline and in doubt. We all met here to share our feelings and past memories with your artist work. Your kind of like the group leader in group therapy for all of us!
ReplyDeletethanks, Woody
ReplyDeleteWow, Annie...pretty harsh words and feelings. I am sad that in the end she probably overdosed or something, but the press will have a field day reporting on all the trouble she has had in recent years and yes, the cause of her death. But I can still feel very sad and that this is a tragedy. Alcoholism and addiction are two diseases that grab you and don't want to let go, no matter how hard you try. I guess you could say she was weak for not being able to overcome her demons, but I wouldn't say that. She was trying really hard to quit drugs and she was working at a comeback in progress. Her vices had taken a toll on her voice and the comeback wasn't going as well as hoped, but she was trying. Perhaps we should say that it all began with her very bad choice of a life partners. Bobby Brown was a very bad influence on her. But we all make mistakes. She just paid for her mistakes and her illness in the most brutal and final way. You don't have to feel sorry for her, but I hope you can at least say that her death at 48 is still tragic and we have lost a great talent.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, now Ms. Houston...

ReplyDeleteI have loved Whitney since the Bodyguard and consider this a great loss. I too am VERY sad today. RIP Whitney, you'll be missed.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, don't take this as a tag team assault, especially after Katie's comments, but we shouldn't be so quick to sum people up. EVERYONE has their demons and their capacities to handle them. Life is a learning process for all of us. And I'm sure she had her reasons for how she handled her life. Maybe we should just be thankful that she was able to share her amazing talent to the extent that she did.
Perhaps now Whitney is indeed at rest, I hope so. And for the good memories she left in her wake I thank her. ~ Peace Whitney.
ReplyDeleteHey Casey here's a blog article about Whitney's passing I thought might resonate with you.

That was a powerful column. I haven't heard of Susie Bright before, and bookmarked it. Thank you, Ish!
ReplyDeleteIsh - that was an OUTSTANDING article. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteEven though she didn't write it, the Lauryn Hill penned "My Love Is Your Love" perhaps was her personal prayer. That song makes me sad more than the others because it was her heart speaking. What cannot be diminished is her achievements: A record 7 #1 singles in a row; Taking the Star Spangled Banner to the top 5 of the pop chart; three albums with over 10 million in sales each. All this from a black female. Her legacy will be remembered and her loss is deep for all of us.
