An entire summer's worth of gardening, cooking and freezing, I hardly knew ye! This is the state of my refrigerator and freezer, post Hurricane Sandy. I can't believe how much work it was growing my tomatoes and peppers this year and then making all sorts of tasty dishes for the winter, now all for nothing. I guess this is when it pays to be a long-suffering New York Mets fan—I'm used to saying, "There's always next year!"
I COULD JUST CRY FOR YOU BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE I'M GLAD YOUR OK AND YOU STILL HAVE A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD AND I'M PRAYING ALL YOUR TRESURES ARE IN TACK. THE REST WILL FALL INTO PLACE.YOU HAVE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT ATTITUDE. THIS STORM WILL CHANGE LIVES FOREVER. THINGS ARE JUST THINGS BUT BEING ALIVE IS A GIFT. DID YOU GET MUCH DAMAGE TO YOUR TREES AND YARD? I WAS SO SCARED WHEN I WENT THROUGH HURRICANE CHARLIE. GRAMPS WAS AT OUR SUMMER HOME IN NY AND THERE I WAS ALONE DOWN HERE. SO I CLOSED UP EVERYTHING AND DROVE OVER TO MY DAUGHTERS. SHE [THEY] HAD JUST MOVED INTO THIS BEAUTIFUL LAKE HOME AND DURING THE NIGHT WHEN THE WINDS WERE AT THEIR WORST, NO LIGHTS, THE WATER WAS POURING IN AROUND MOST OF HER WINDOWS UPSTAIRS AND DOWNSTAIRS. THE BUILDER NEVER CAULKED AROUND THEM THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD DO AT THE TIME BUT WE DID GET THROUGH IT OK. WHEN I DROVE BACK HOME AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS MY HOUSE WASN'T EVEN TOUCH. ALOT OF TREES DOWN AND SOME DAMAGE IN NEIGHBORS YARDS AND HOME. NOTHING BIG TIME. ALL I DID WAS WALK AROUND THE HOUSE AND ASKED GODS' BLESSING ON IT WHILE I WAS AT MY DAUGHTERS. I DON'T KNOW HOW ANYONE CAN GO THROUGH ALL THE DAMAGE ALONG THE COAST. AT OUR AGE IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO HANDLE. IF THE PEOPLE HAVEN'T LEARNED WHAT'S IMPORTANT IN LIFE THEY NEVER WILL. I'M SO GLAD THAT I DID LEARN ONE THING IN LIFE. IF SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS MAD AT YOU IT'S THEIR PROBLEM NOT MINE. I NEVER STAY UPSET WITH ANYTHING OR ANYONE BECAUSE LIFE IS SO SHORT. I DON'T WANT TO CARRY THAT WEIGHT ON MY SHOULDERS.I GUESS IF I WAS IN THAT STORM AND I LOST EVERYTHING I GUESS I'D MOVE INTO A SMALL PLACE AND JUST BE GLAD I WAS ALIVE. DON'T KNOW. I'VE BEEN IN MANY STORMS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY FROM NY TO OKLAHOMA TEXAS TO FLORIDA AND MORE. JUST BEEN PROTECTED BY GODS ANGELS I GUESS. STAY WELL AND TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME AND KNOW WE HERE ON YOUR BLOG LOVE YOU. GRANNY.
ReplyDeleteyes, one day at a time. And I don't mean to sound ungrateful! There are so many people much worse off. Staten Island was destroyed from one end to the other. We lost a few more trees, but the house is fine, and now that the heat is on again, it's almost normal. I'm going out right now to get some groceries. I made it through the storm much better than millions of people in New York and New Jersey. Thanks for the comment, as always, Granny!
ReplyDeleteTREASURES. OH MY, MY, MY. DARN FINGERNAILS. LOL. SO, SO HAPPY FOR YOU.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Hopefully you can pig out on warm food :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Casey, you KNOW we always worry about you when we don't hear.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are safe, but so sorry about the food loss. Didn't this happen last year too, or am I dreaming that up?
I agree with paul that maybe canning might be your "new friend". Such a lot of work though. I used to can but now I just think about when i "USED" to can! LOL
Take care dear friend
Mare
Hi Mare! Yup, the same thing happened last year with Tropical Storm Irene and then a couple of months later, with the surprise Halloween blizzard. I am DEFINITELY going to learn how to can next year! My mother used to, but it seems like so much more work, lol. But it will be worth it. I think these storms are going to keep coming. Always nice to hear from you in the heartland!
