Happy Memorial Day, 2013, to everyone, and it's also my 56th birthday today. I've always enjoyed having a holiday weekend for most of my birthdays, but I can't remember too many times it has actually fallen on this day. There have been several Indy 500 races on my birthday and I graduated from college on my 22nd birthday. Hard to believe that was 34 years ago today!
Pictured above, is my reproduction 13-star flag, dating to the mid 1930s. It was probably bought first for either Connecticut's Tercentennial in 1935 or Guilford's in 1939. I hang it outside once or twice a year to prevent it from fading, although it's age-yellowed a bit.
I apologize to all of my readers for my absence lately. I'll be back to posting more regularly soon!
Happy happy birthday, Casey! xox You still have a few years to catch up with me. LOL Are you okay (not posting much lately)? Can I do anything for you?
ReplyDeleteHope you make yourself a birthday cake or someone else does! I would!
Katie
Hi Katie! I had a birthday party last night. Several friends came down with everything and all I had to do was go downstairs to my front yard and there were tables and food and drinks. It was very nice. I've been busy on book projects for work and trying to get the yard in shape. Everything stresses me out these days though. But I have a bunch of flower photos to post soon. Thanks and have a great holiday!
DeleteJUST POP[ED IN TO WISH YOU A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I'M SO GLAD YOUR FRIENDS STOPPED BY.I MISS THE OUTDOOR CLAMBAKES WE ALWAY HAD ON THIS DAY WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND GROWING UP. THERE'D BE 50 OR MORE SHOW UP AT MOM AND DADS' HOUSE WHEN THE WORD GOT OUT THAT SHE WAS PUTTING ONE TOGETHER WHICH HAPPEN A COUPLE TIMES A YEAR. TODAY BEING ONE OF THE DAY IT WOULD TAKE PLACE. WHEN THEY DIED MY OLDEST BROTHER AND WIFE TOOK OVER AND CARRIED ON . 1500 TO 2000 CLAMS WOULD GET EATEN. AND MOMS CLAM SOUP WAS TO DIE FOR. SHE JUST THREW IT TOGETHER AND THOUGHT NOTHING ABOUT COOKING FOR THAT MANY. NOT ME, I WOULDN'T KNOW WHERE TO START. I MISS THOSE DAYS SO MUCH.WAY TO MUCH FOOD BUT NOTHING WAS WASTED. NO DIETS JUST EAT AND DRINK AND EAT SOMEMORE. I'M SURE A CLAMBAKE TOOK PLACE TODAY UP THERE IN MY LITTLE TOWN IN NEW YORK. THE YOUNGER KIDS YOUR AGE HAVE TAKEN OVER AND KEEPS IT GOING EVERY YEAR. IF I WAS THERE THAT'S WHERE I'D BE TODAY. EATING CLAMS. YUM.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING YOUR BIRTHDAY WITH ME AND THOSE THAT ARE PEEKING. YOUR JUST VERY SPECIAL TO US OLD LADIES. LOL
GRANNY
thank you, Granny Lou! An old fashioned clambake on the beach sounds great. I love the corn-on-the cob and all the other foods at a bake, too!
DeleteHappy Happy HAPPY Birthday Dear Casey! I think this is the 3rd birthday "we've spent together" :) or is it the 4th? Losing track in this case is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteYour party sounded FABULOUS! How fun! I'm sorry you're stressing but having work is always a good thing (albeit tiring and an intrusion on our fun at times :)
I've been remiss on my own blog lately I'm afraid-Life has a way of butting into my fun sometimes!
Always LOVE your flag on the house-it's perfect!
May 2013 be YOUR year dear friend! A toast to you-'May the next year be your best ever. May you be happy, healthy and have enough"

DeleteHappy Birthday from far away ... I will be in Penang, Malaysia tomorrow. A visit to the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas is on the agenda. I can't believe the long trip is almost at its end, I have loved every minute.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you back. I have been peeking at you almost every day.
