One of my cactuses is in full bloom right now. This year it's downstairs in the foyer along with my piano. The plant is sitting on a Victrola with art hanging all around it. I shot this photo with a camera setting, 1600ISO which adds grain to low light photos. And no, I still can't use "cacti" without feeling like Jane Hathoway, the secretary on The Beverly Hillbillies, so I don't!
This cactus, with rounded leaves, blooms later in the fall closer to Christmas. It's breaking out in tiny buds though, so I think it's going to have a good year, too. Right now it's also in the downstairs foyer. The front door is to the right, and it's sitting on a dresser I've painted for a friend; it's just waiting to be picked up. Everything with a horizontal surface is fully utilized in my apartment. I captured my bare feet in this shot, lol, in the mirror below the vintage hats.
Wonderful photos of wonderful plants, Casey! I so love them when they're in bloom. I have tried and tried to grow them but I can't get them to bloom. I gave up a few years ago. Think of you often. Hope things are coming along all right! xox Katie
ReplyDeleteJealous?? me..jealous?? Yes I am! I had a talk with my Christmas cactus a couple days ago..I told her I knew she missed mom (this was my mom's cactus and is a BIG girl! :), but it is ok to bloom..she did great last year and was budding already, but so far....nothing! *sigh* here's hoping mine turns out as good as yours!
ReplyDeleteHi Girls! I think one "secret" is to give them nice light in the summers, I put mine outside under a tree but with good filtered light. Then when they come in for the fall, they stay out of direct light altogether. The Thanksgiving cactus comes in full of buds, but the others take another couple of months to bud. They're in the downstairs because there is only one window down there, in the door. Mare, I hope yours bloms and Katie, try another one, lol!
ReplyDeleteLAST YEAR MINE WAS IN FULL BLOOM. THIS YEAR NOTHING YET BUT LOOKS VERY HEALTHY.
