Huge Snow Coming Tonight/Tomorrow

Let's Look Back at Some Warmth from 2010!

Taken last August 7th, on what would have been my Mom's 92nd birthday, this Tiger Swallowtail was a visitor in my gardens for more than a month. There were actually a few of them as I discovered by shooting so many photos. Their spots and wing shapes were slightly different on each one.

A great cluster of fresh tomatoes, ripening in the summer sun. Photo taken August 8th. I could sure use some sun-warmed fresh tomatoes today!

An arrangement of zinnias and ageratum from last August 9th. They are sitting on an oval glass pane, which was the rear window of one my family's antique cars—I'm not sure which one. The pitted piece of chrome my signature is sitting on is a hood ornament from a 1952 Packard, a very heavy brass casting with a chrome finish. The Matchbox-sized cars are Johnny Lightning's and include a blue BMW X5 SUV, a mustard colored 1971 Duster 340, a sky blue-and-white '55 plexiglass-roofed Ford Crown Victoria, a customized '57 Ford Fairlane convertible, and a fanciful green 1930s roadster by a company named Manoil. Lastly there is a red slushcast streamlined coupe, somewhat similar to the Chevy fastback of the 1940s. In the upper right corner, is a black cowl lamp from my grandmother's 1915 Ford Model T runabout. My Prince Albert can is visible in front of the cowl lamp.

Local meteorologists are predicting anywhere from 12-18 inches of snow tonight, not ending until early tomorrow evening. Yuk. It's always a pain to have to walk in this weather, for days afterwards! At least my bikes are getting a much-needed winter rest, lol.

  1. Oh Casey! The summer pics are such a refreshing thing to see today! Thank you. I think if I wasn't in my nightgown right now I would go right out and buy a bouquet of flowers for my house! You are so inspiring (and none of that pshaw stuff, mister!)LOL

Do you have CVS up there? I was there yesterday and they have a new display of toy model cars. They are much bigger than 1/64ths but I don't know what size they are. They don't come in boxes so there is no identifying info, and unlike you I can't identify them by sight. My first impulse was to buy you a few of them! But I wouldn't know what you would want. So you were in my thoughts yesterday. :)

I think we're getting the same snowstorm you are. :( Good luck with yours.

I'm going to stay in and make chicken noodle soup from scratch for the first time. Sounds like a good plan for a snowy day, doesn't it? :)

    Hi Casey-Bloggers! I'm firsty-first! LOL

  4. Granny, it is "bitmap" - google BMP for a complete explanation.

Casey, Summer looks REALLY good right now - the snow is a falling!
Fortunately, Spring is only a couple of months away.

  5. Maybe we should rename the seasons: White / Green / Variegated / Rust

  6. Back from two walking trips to town today. The store was unbelievably crowded and the normally polite customers, all rich people in their 50s and 60s and older were SO RUDE and so obnoxious. I hate the "bread and batteries' crowd right before a storm. I go everyday and pick up fresh stuff, and i hate it when it's like this today. I don't know why people get so rude and frantic. the weather is still PERFECT, and it will be until 9-10pm. oy vey!

    gonna calm down now, lol.

  7. Even in NYC people act crazy, like there's never going to be food ever again or the electricity is going to go out so they must have those batteries!

I'm looking forward to the snow -- MSN says now up to 15" -- and will try to get some pictures in the morning to show how pretty my block gets when it's buried in snow. Maybe we'll even try for some nighttime shots if it snows a lot before bedtime.

  10. it sounds like you have to name each photo before you save them. it seems as if your computer is naming each photo "untitled.bmp" so it's asking you if you want to overwrite each time. You should have a way of naming the photos you want to save. I'm not that good on PCs though, I use a Mac.

  13. Geeze, I left a post on how to do this and I guess forgot the password.
Granny, right click on UNTITLED.BMP a drop down menu should come up, one of the choice is RENAME click yes, then give your file a new name like casey butterfly.bmp this should work. GL Granny

  14. good! I'm glad we all helped!

  15. It was supposed to start snowing here around 1 pm today (Tues) and snow until tomorrow noonish. It didn't start snowing until 4:30 and here at 10:30 pm we have probably an inch. It's going to snow all night but I don't think we're going to end up with much snow!

Casey, I don't blame you for taking offense at the peoples' rudeness at the store today. There's no excuse for it!

Granny, glad you got the bmp figured out! Congrats!

Hi PX, Paul, AJ and anyone else who comes around!

  16. Hey guys, I really miss the longer days of summer and walking around the house in shorts and a t-shirt. Even the ferrule cats outside are upset about the chilly winds bouncing around from house to house and they love to sleep between where I live and my neighbor. I wonder why they cry at night. Whoever abandoned them at birth made them fearful little creatures that runaway from an open door for the evening.

The warmer weather will be here in a few months, more Casey pics to look forward too, and I am sure my good friend's mother will be looking at all the joy
    he gives to people!

  17. in the early 80s in the neighborhood around my parent's house, there were several 'homeless" cat families. I'm not sure how they started but there were maybe 20 at one point. One of them was just slightly friendlier than the others, so my father, who was retired and ill at the time, put food out for it on the back deck and it finally would come when he called. It was a pretty tiger cat with a white face and white feet. My father loved to watch Wheel of Fortune, so he named the cat "Vanna White Toes." It's funny, but he fed it until he died, and then the cat disappeared too. It never came back to the house and my mother put food out for her. She only responded to my father.

Starting to snow here, and they're still saying it's going to be more than a foot. We'll see! I don't need anything in town for a few days, so I'm fine with it all.

  18. Well, I wonder how all my east coast friends are doing tonight...are you buried under snow?? I think right now it is too cold here to snow! None in the forecast it appears.
Paul, I hope you are able to get some street shots...sounds so interesting...don't know if you care to, but on my (puny little) blog I have a few pics on a drive we took a couple days ago...I don't live at the end of the earth, but you can see it from there. After seeing some of the scenery where I live, you will understand why I have such a curiosity about a city!(Casey has a link to it on the right: mare's mumblings : stop by anytime.
Casey, glad you are all set to be snowbound..love those days ...snuggled in a cocoon of snow..wonderful.
Hope you all have a peaceful rest tonight...
    mare
