Buick's Large RWD Sport Sedan—Lucerne Reborn

The current Lacrosse is a great car, but isn't the flagship Buick needs. My Lucerne, reborn with RWD and a hybrid performance drivetrain, could be.

C H O P — The flagship Buick luxury sport sedan, the reborn rear-wheel drive Lucerne. I've pushed and pulled the sheetmetal around the larger wheels and tires. The bodysides now feature a subtle "sweepspear" contour and the larger Buick logo on the trunk is anchored by a chrome molding at the sweepspear's height, carrying that line around the rear of the car. The rocker panels have dark argent skirting on them, making the painted body seem lower and longer. A black glass roof finishes the transformation. A twin-charged small displacement, direct-injected V6 with hybrid assist, yields 300hp and 35mpg with 0-60 in the 6 second range.

  1. Good morning all Casey bloggers...it is chilly but sunny in NE this a.m. Just trying to catch up on all the posts from the past few days...have been out and about and miss checking in...so many things to love (and of course, I have to go back and add some florals to my cell phone photo shifter so I can watch all the beautiful colors going past!(once again Casey, thanks for being so generous with your time and photos!)
The Lincoln post *sigh* and the sporty coupes divine!!
HI to all the regulars (and visitors and newbies here!) hope all is going well for everyone..

  2. I like this Buick. It captures the classy, stylish look of Buicks of the past. I've never seen what all the criticism of the Lucerne is about -- I think the basic car is very handsome but you've taken handsome and made it hot! I hope Buick continues in the direction it's going. As you know, I'm still waiting for them to make the Riviera coupe and Wildcat convertible!

  3. Good morning Mare,Good morning Casey,

Aggressive and stately . Pure classic Buick .

The Buick shield and chromed wings accross the tail lights is a fine touch.

Thank you, Mare, for you good wishes . I hope you all have a pleasant and productive afternoon!

  4. I think the Lucerne wasn't bad looking either. In fact, they still turn my head when I see one, but only because you don't see them very often. I think it looks a bit like the VW Phaeton, a good thing.

  5. I think the Malibu looks like the VW Phaeton too.

And I LOVE the Phaeton. People can be such label whores!

  6. I really like the Phaeton too. I'd like one with the rear bucket seats and console.

  9. AP:
one of the fun things about photoshopping cars is thinking about how to detail them. I love looking at photos of styling studios and clay models, like they show in "Collectible Automobiles." Working out how a character line flows, what to align with it, what to break it with, proportion, history, contemporary needs... I love how much there is to think about the look of a car.

I'm not unaware of what a totally useless obsession this is for a man of 53. it keeps my mind sharp, lol. I wouldn't be surprised to see printouts of my cars chopped into squares and used as blocks of color in future art on wood. I think it would be fun to merge my art forms.

  11. Casey,

At 55, styling studios and clay models are a (near) life long passion of mine as well . When C.A. features clay models, I often scan them so I can see them all the better . Watching the development of a cars character is endlessly fascinating .

I learn a lot ,and have a great time, observing your work and the way you apply the elements you listed above

An art piece of all your cars together would be pretty amazing.

And a good evening to you and everyone !

  12. Happy Friday Everyone! What's happening to me and time. I totally forgot I am leaving Monday for a few days in Las Vegas. Should be fun just a bunch of us girls. Highlight will be on Wednesday night when we see the Viva Elvis show by Cirque du Soleil. I'm not schlepping my laptop this trip so you will notice a cone of silence over AA Mon-Thur.

I'll check back later in the day.

  13. Have a great time there Annie! I'd rethink your laptop though. You should simulblog your trip, lol. I've never been to Vegas, though I know someone that bought an apartment there a few years ago. it has "skyline" views of downtown and electric curtains in every room, lol!
