From the Island of Lost Toys

Vintage scale models in various states of build and de-build, lol, provide the tableau for tonight's digital art. Cars include, from left, '57 Bel Air, '71 Pinto, '66 Tbird, first-gen Countach, second-gen Capri in black and gold, and a '65 Corvair coupe in front.

  1. On the Island of Lost Toys
    Exists complete disarray and limbo
    Wrecked,waiting and wanting the boys
Visioned and fingers ever so nimble

Longing for hoods that go up and down
And new tires to go round and round
These Lost Toys shiver, they shake
Fearing being tossed in a nearby lake

"Help us",is heard coming from each tiny chassis

"Please turn us into something quite classic"

  4. A nice assortment! My choice out of these would the Corvair. Lately I've been thinking a lot about Corvairs -- I love the first generation. Wouldn't it be fun to have a stable of the four body styles -- sedan, coupe, convertible and station wagon. When's the last time you saw either a sedan or a station wagon? Just last night on an episode of Curb Appeal: The Block (I just love John Gidding), they wroked on a hosue that had a Corvair van (Corvan?) in the front yard -- it looked abandoned and derelict but it started up and they drove it away!

  5. the company my dad worked for in the early '60s had a Corvair Van for a winter, and my dad loved driving it in the snow. He used it to go to Manhattan almost daily, 2 hours each way. He said with the rear engine over the drive wheels, he could go where a lot of cars would have to stop. the original '60 coupe has always been one of my favorites, low and clean and innovative. I think it was CA, or HCC, published an article about early Corvairs and said that the '61 was almost a brand new car underneath, it was that changed from the original '60.

  6. Hi Casey,Hi Annie(thanks for the welcome a few comments back!) Hi Granny! Hi Paul!

Last year I went to see a friend race her nitro-funny car in Bakersfield. A fellow on her pit crew was selling a wonderful Corvair van . I was so tempted!

Not overly familiar with them, I was a awestruck by the solid, tank-like build quailty. Wow ! I was also intrigued by by the details, feeling there was a lot of Motorama in them . A hint of Earls final 'baroque" touches as seen on dream cars like GMC Expedier , La Salle Roadster, and the Chevrolet Biscayne .

    A good day to all!

  7. Be prepared to be amazed. My first car was a white corvair with blue/green interior whose name was "Bart" (don't ask..I was an odd child!) Can't remember what year it was...want to say a '62 my dad thought it was newer than that, but I don't think so..will have to look around online and also ask hubby...he might remember.
