Sunflower, August 2011.
Icarus soared. Yes, the ending came too soon, but for a brief moment in time, Icarus flew. He felt the wing beneath his wings, as it were. He knew the freedom that comes without leaving footprints in this world. Doesn't matter that it didn't last. What does? Experiences that change us, for good for bad, don't require longevity. 30 seconds, 30 days, 30 years, 30 lifetimes. Icarus soared!
Ha, both of us were a little Greek mythological in our posts this week, must be something they put in the water.
ReplyDeleteI this, what you wrote: "He knew the freedom that comes without leaving footprints in this world."
It too long for my tombstone, so I'm sticking with my first choice, "Roll me up and smoke me when I die."
But I'll keep it at the #2 spot just in case I decide to go bigger. lol
CASEY, I USED TO PAINT DAISIES AND SUNFLOWERS WHEN I DID TOLE PAINTING BACK IN THE DAY. I COULD STILL PAINT THIS ONE. ONE THING I DIDN'T FORGET.

Only organic substances like this really seem to amaze me. I would have normally not noticed until Casey points out the obvious.

DeleteIt is worth getting your wings scorched to soar for just a little while.
ReplyDeleteJust a note: Sunflowers are at least a month away from blooming in Portland, Oregon.
My sunflowers aren't anywhere near blooming this year. I have a couple about 3 feet tall but most of them are only about a foot high. I started them late this year. This one is from last summer. I might have sunflowers by September!
