This stalk of Gladiolas grew horizontally along the ground, in and amongst the lily leaves. I didn't realize what was going on with it until the flowers started blooming. I staked it up but it never quite unfurled, lol. Still a pretty color, though. Next year I have to try to remember where I planted all of my flowers!
Dragonflies are everywhere this summer. I've never seen so many, of so many varieties. We have medium-sized ones with red bodies, above. We have large golden ones, small brown ones and one super-huge species with a white body. The red one in the photo, would not stop flying around me, and landing on me, as I was shooting my daily photos. I turned the camera around and snapped this photo of it happily camping on my shoulder. They seem quite tame and will gladly land on your hand if you hold it out for them.
Here's a cool dragonfly respite for a warm day.....

I STILL LOVE THAT FLOWER CASEY. IT'S JUST GOT LITTLE OLD AGE SENTING IN. OLD KNEES.

Casey, I clicked on the dragonfly pic for a enlarged view and was taken about with how you could see through the wings and the texture of your shirt.
ReplyDeleteDo me a favor... crop just the right wing portion out and let me know what this looks like...
aren't those clear wings, something else? I love watching them fly hither, thither and yon. I'm not sure what you mean about the cropping...
ReplyDeleteI like how you described the flower, Granny!
cool video, Annie!
ReplyDeleteDragon flies are interesting to watch, but I light fire flies the most and despise locusts the most for their sound, lol.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a firefly yet this year. I don't walk around outside at night, but maybe I should make myself just once and see if we have any.
ReplyDeleteI mean just crop the two right wings from the picture - so that is all that shows, like a really tight shot.
ReplyDeleteI am curious what the texture of the wings and cloth beneath them would look like.
Sign me Director DeAnnie
everyone's an art director, lol. I feel like I'm back in New York.
ReplyDeletebut it's a great idea. Not sure there is enough detail in the original, but I'll go back and check soon.
thanks!
I LOVE THAT SWEET LITTLE DRAGONFLY SITTING THERE KNOWING HE'S SAFE FLYING IN YOUR GARDEN.I DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD A RED BODY. I ALSO LOVE BEING ABLE TO SEE THROUGH THEIR WINGS. HOW COOL !!!!!!!!!!!IT'S LIKE HOW SOMETIMES YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH A PERSON AND NOT REALLY KNOW THEM.CASEY, HAVE YOU BEEN TO MARES' BLOG LATELY? THE PAST TWO DAYS HAVE BEEN FUN.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
WHERE ARE YOU?
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Casey, down here in Jersey, fireflies just come out at dusk and they stick around for about a half hour after dark, then the go in for the night. So you wouldn't have to be outside at night. They fascinate me! There weren't any where I was reared. :)
ReplyDeletehugs,
Katie
