Meet Zsa Zsa—"Baby Bunny"!

If you click on the image, "Baby Bunny" will look up. I've made my first (very rudimentary) animated gif file, lol!

This is Zsa Zsa, Pink Gardens' littlest mascot. She showed up this spring as a teeny tiny baby bunny, and has become almost tame, even as she has grown to almost full size. She tended to arrive at happy hour, while we were sitting outside eating or enjoying an afternoon beverage, hence the name Zsa Zsa—famous for her good looks and her notorious happy hours, lol. "Baby Bunny" as we also call her, won't exactly eat out of our hands, but will come as close as a foot or two and not be scared by us. She eats grass, cracked corn and, above, an apple core. The chipmunks and birds taunt her, jumping up out of the grass, or down from the lilac bush, trying to startle her. It's hysterical to watch; she just looks at them like they're bothersome little brothers. We really hope she sticks around—we get worried with all the birds of prey around here.

  1. Good job, Casey! That's really neat! I love having rabbits in the yard. We didn't have nearly as many as usual this year. We can't figure out why. No babies at all, I don't think.

Now we have a warning not to put out bird or squirrel food until after December 1st because it attracts bears and they are very hungry right now. The hurricane caused a shortage of acorns, which they like to bulk up on before their winter's sleep. We have never seen any signs of bears this far south in Jersey, but a little brown bear has been hanging around Kevin's workplace for a month or two now, and that's only 13 miles northeast of us! Yikes!

Thanks for sharing your animation and the tales of Zsa Zsa!

  2. thanks, Katie. I've seen reports on TV of bears in New Jersey! They're also in Connecticut, but further north from where I am, more inland, but probably not more than 20 miles or so. We feed the birds and other critters all year 'round. Hope they don't tell us we can't! It's just so much fun to see how many different birds you can attract to a yard. The chipmunks eat anything left over, lol. They're almost tame, too.

  3. CASEY, YOU AND I HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON.THAT LITTLE BUNNY IS JUST SO SWEET.I HAD A RABBIT WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG. [9 OR 10] HE HAD HIS OWN CAGE IN THE BACK YARD. MY MOM GOT TIRED OF FEEDING IT AS SHE HAD SO MUCH TO DO TAKING CARE OF THE HOUSE AND US KIDS WHILE DAD WORKED SO HARD IN THE CITY. ONE DAY SHE HAD MY AUNT COME TO THE HOUSE. SHE DECIDED TO GIVE THE RABBIT TO MY COUSINS.I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO UNTIL AUNTIE ARRIVED WITH HER KIDS ALL EXCITED ABOUT GETTING MY RABBIT. I WAS SO UPSET I RAN INTO THE HOUSE AND JUST SOBBED. THEN SHE YELLED IN TO ME TO GO UPSTAIRS AND GET MY COWBOY BOOTS[LIKE BRAND NEW]AND GIVE THEM TO ONE OF THE COUSINS. I WAS SO MAD I WENT UPSTAIRS AND OPENED THE BACK BEDROOM WINDOW AND THREW THEM OUT THE WINDOW AT THEM. I NEVER FORGOT THAT DAY.KIDS WILL BE KIDS BUT I DIDN'T WANT THOSE COUSINS TO HAVE MY THINGS. THEY ALWAY HAD THE BEST AND US KIDS WELL LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY.LEFTOVERS.I NEVER HAD ANYTHING NEW BUT THOSE BOOTS. I USED TO RIDE [ANOTHER AUNTS'] HORSES ALL THE TIME. WHY SHE GAVE THEM AWAY I NEVER GOT AN ASWER BECAUSE BACK THEN YOU DIDN'T DARE ASK WHY. RABBITS HAVE ALWAY BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANIMALS. THE SQUIRRELS IN MY BACKYARD HAVE GIVEN ME AND LITTLE JOEY [DOG]HOURS OF FUN AND ENJOYMENT.THEIR REAL BUSY DIGGING HOLES FOR THEIR WINTER DINNERS OF ACORNS. I'VE GOT AN OAK TREE AT THE FRONT DOOR AND ONE IN THE BACKYARD.PLENTY OF FUN WATCHING ALL THE WILDLIFE.

    THANKS FOR SHARING.

    HUGS, GRANNY

  4. I would guess she was trying to treach you some sort of Life Lesson" but I'm not sure what it was, lol! Some afternoons I'll sit outside at the table and in a few minutes, the birds and animals forget I'm there. I feel like Dr Doolittle in the middle of all that nature. They run around and play with each other, eat, squeak, squawk, lol. Always a different bird or butterfly to go in and look up.

  5. Yes, we are unhappy about not being able to put out critter food right now! We love all the different birds and little animals it brings in, too! We sit out there in the evenings and it's so peaceful and relaxing. We haven't actually been able to sit out there for the last month or so because Kevin works late and then has to go to his mother's so he gets home too late. Miss it like crazy!
It's so lovely to hear about your afternoons with the critters, Casey!

  6. Before ever owing a hamster or dog, the rabbit for many years was the family pet. I remember Barney, small black dwarf ear bunny made me smile every time I had seen him. His ears were really smooth and stubby
and would always look at me when I played with him. Unfortunately when I came back from camp, he had left this place.

Ferrari the teddybear hamster bought joy back.

Catch the M*A*S*H snippet "What's Up Doc" the bottom.

I guess we all have different 'rabbit' memories - rofl.
