As Modern As the 1920s' Tomorrow

As promised, the sixth of my vintage Christmas light ornaments, the dirigible. Thanks to the wonders of age-old Elmer's Glue, it's almost good as new. Well, it's as good as an unbroken 80+ year old piece of glass and metal could be! I'm wondering now if these lights could actually be a bit older than the 1920s. Was this a subtle piece of United States "Great War" propaganda, an airship in red, white and blue with the American flag on the side?

  3. The depth and breadth of your collections continue to dazzle me! I can't believe so many things have survived for so long. This zeppelin is the coolest of the Christmas lights so far.

Speaking of Zeppelin, I just bought a pair of Robert Plant tickets for a concert in Ann Arbor in January. Can't wait to go.

  5. haha, "complicated!" that sounds like something Tom would write! Tom lives in SF but I wonder who is in Yonkers.... Tom and Bette (Walking The Dog Blog) and I were all great friends in New Haven until they moved away and left me all alone... : )

Thanks, Annie! I'm in the right ball park for years. I'm always shocked at the prices of things.

  6. Casey, sounds to me like you're on to something with the 1918 connection to the dirigible Christmas light possibility.

Someone just released a real-life dirigible for sale for, I think, 2.something million bucks. Who bought one? John Travolta!

  7. thanks, Katie!

That kind of purchase by the wealthy drives me crazy, no actually makes me sick. I don't know how they live with themselves. wasting money like that on what are essentially toys, when there are SO MANY people and organizations that need help. His money comes from the public and should be given back to the public in the form of charitable contributions. And I don't mean small amounts. I wish we lived in a true socialist/communist society where the difference between the poorest and richest is insignificant. True equality can never be achieved in a capitalist society, in my opinion. Oh don't get me started!
