Hello Dolly(s)

Some of my vintage dolls and figurines scanned for a piece of art I made in 2008. Above—All I have left of this Victorial bisque doll is her head and shoulders piece. She's so serene and beautiful though, she'll remain with me forever.

Adorable little fairy figurine. So impish!

One of my own little dolls from my childhood. He's a tattooed warrior in a fabulous feather-and-leather outfit. I used to talk to him for hours as a child.

Disney's "Sleepy" chose to pose without his floppy felt hat. The better to see his sleepy eyes!

Hoohoo's prized Roly-Poly from the late 1920s. Still the pride of my collection.

Sleeping Dolly. She will rest in peace in my collection as long as I am around to curate it.

  1. Love your dolls. I have only one, the one that was my mother's doll from her childhood. China face, hand and feet. Her body is made from kid, scotch tape holds back her sawdust filling from spilling out into her modern day surroundings. She has real human hair that, alas, grows thin.

Since the original doll belonged to Adeline Anna, then became mine, Anna Adeline, she has been bequeathed to my granddaughter, Anna Loree and then hopefully on to her daughter Haleighana.

    1. One of these days have to figure out where all of my stuff is going. There's no more family so I really need to make sure it all goes to good homes. Is Haleighana pronounced Hailey Anna? Very cool name regardless, Adeline! : )

    2. Yes you got the name correct. Of course I call her Hal, but her mom gives her the full name treatment, it is quite pretty.

And Haleighana call me "GG", which stands for greatgrandma.

  2. Each doll is very beautiful, Casey. My mother (aged 82) has just recently misplaced her childhood doll, Patsy, and we've searched high and low for her. I dearly hope to be reunited with her someday. Thank you for keeping such good care of all your "dollies".

    1. oh no, Katie! I'll talk to Patsy tonight and tell her to stop playing hide-and-seek. They get bored sometimes, the little buggers! She'll be back soon.

  3. I'M SURE I MENTION BEFORE I STILL HAVE MANY OF MY CHILDHOOD DOLLS.I HAD ONE OF THOSE CHINA DOLL HEADS,ALSO.I MADE A WALL HANGING SHADOW BOX WHERE TILL THIS DAY SHE'S RESTING. THEN A FEW YEARS AGO I GAVE IT TO MY OLDEST DAUGHTER. IT WAS MY HOOHOOS' [FAVORITE AUNT] DOLL. I ADORED IT AND TOLD MY DAUGHTER IT MUST STAY IN THE FAMILY. I CALL ALL MY DOLLS WW2 DOLLS BECAUSE THOSE WERE THE YEARS I GOT THEM AT CHRISTMAS TIME. I ALWAY WANTED TO HAVE THEM RESTORED BY IT COST SO VERY MUCH. YOUR LAST PICTURE LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THEM.

    THANKS FOR SHARING/

  4. I started collecting dolls about ten years ago, not for myself of course, but for my parent’s antique shop. My siblings and I are now taking care of the shop for them. My sister is in-charge of getting accessories for these dolls – mostly vintage – that I bargained from flea markets, and sometimes, from our family friends.
