M Y C O L L E C T I O N — Froggy the Gremlin first "appeared" in 1944 in the Buster Brown Gang, a radio show by "Smiling Ed McConnell," and went on to TV fame starting in 1950 with the same host. Today, my Rempel produced 5-inch Froggy spends his retirement years hanging out, literally, on a wall, with all of my other collectible creatures, including Wishnik trolls, antique dolls of all sorts, puppets et al. Though somewhat different in appearance than in the following link, my Froggy is stamped Rempel, 1948, and is thus pretty early in the run. Update: The Froggy I was looking at on the website was the larger 9-inch version. The 5-inch version looks exactly like mine. Yippee, lol!

Love it! Thanks! You know your home is a "museum" don't you?? and I truly mean that in a wonderful way!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mare. I don't mind "museum." It's been called worse things, lol.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION, WHEN AND WHY DID YOU START SAVING THINGS [STUFF].THERE HAS TO BE A STORY.
ReplyDeleteLOVE FROGGY.
GRANNY
I think it was probably something I learned from my aunt Hoohoo. Everyone always called her house the "museum" too. I learned to appreciate older things as much as she did. I think she'd be proud that I've been able to keep and collect as many things as I have. At least 1/2 of what I have is hers. The rest are things that spoke to me and I brought them home!

ReplyDeleteCASEY THANKS FOR SHARING THAT LITTLE BIT. ME TOO. MOM ALWAY SAID IF ANY OF US KIDS DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF HER THINGS SHE'D COME BACK AND HAUNT US. GOOD LORD, I WOULDN'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN. SO WHEN SHE DIE I WAS THE THE FIRST TO GO THROUGH HER THINGS AND GRAB BECAUSE I KNEW MY BROTHERS WOULDN'T CARE EXCEPT FOR ONE.I THINK HE ALWAY WANTED MOMS STAIN GLASS LAMP THAT'S WELL OVER 100 YEARS I WOULD SAY. IT WAS THE FIRST THING I TOOK WITHOUT ASKING BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAVORITE THING IN THE HOUSE.I'VE GIVEN 75% OF THE THINGS TO MY CHILDREN.MOM WOULD WANT IT THAT WAY.SO YOU SEE I UNDERSTAND.WE CAN'T TAKE THE THINGS WITH US WHEN WE'RE DEAD BUT I'VE ENJOYED THEM WHILE ALIVE.
ReplyDeleteYOU STILL AMAZE ME,ALSO THANKS FOR SHARING.
GRANNY, YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN.
My friend's mom was a very big collector of small antique items like Froggy. Each step of their spiral staircase had 3 figurines. I remember walking down the stairs one time and accidentally tip one over to the side. I'm so glad she never found out, otherwise I would be missing a foot, lol.
