I'm not sure what the context of this photo is . . . It's from the mid 1950s, which would place it in Germany, as my father was stationed in Stuttgart until 1960—where I was born in 1957. I'm guessing it must have been a fundraiser or charity event of some sort. I didn't superimpose anything on the image, all the scratches and discolorations are on the original. I'm not quite sure what the guy is doing at the bottom right, either, lol. He looks totally out of proportion. I'm guessing the subjects, the "boxer" and my dad in the bow tie, are standing on a raised stage, and that little guy is sitting below, but it's really an odd juxtaposition. I really like this photo of my father, though!

WEIRD,I WONDER WHAT THEY WERE DOING. THE GUY HAS A FIST LIKE HE'S GOING TO POKE SOMEONE AND YOUR DAD SEEMS TO BE ENJOYING WHATEVER WAS HAPPENING.WE'LL NEVER KNOW AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO SLEEP ALL NIGHT WONDERING WHAT WE MISSED. LOL
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING.
GRANNY
There were probably some full, and then empty, beer steins involved, lol. I have a bunch of beautiful ceramic steins from Germany up in the attic.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Now that is funny although a VERY good photo of your handsome father! the "little" guy in the corner is a tad bit funny though I must admit!
ReplyDeleteAny new snow your way? Weekend wonderland here but starting a slow steady thaw (I hope) here.
Mare
Mare: it was 50° today! It's suppoed to drop to midday highs of 35° or so this weekend, with a chance of snow. But the way I think, even if it's REALLY cold for a while, it's almost mid February so how bad could winter be if it arrives? I probably shouldn't jinx myself like that. My grandfather was born in March of 1888 in a famous 4-foot blizzard!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like this took place at some night club. I find post war Germany such an interesting time. The far left is allowed to show its face for the first time in 15 years(pre-Weimar) and companies like Adidas become more stylistic (adoption of 3 stripes in the 50's)and popular.
ReplyDeleteIt probably was a nightclub. I have a lot of photos of my parents out in clubs in both Japan and Germany. They had a nice life before they had me, lol. Thanks for your historical take on Germany, too. Your history major is showing, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a great interest to me, considerIng my background, how pre and post war generations differ from a sociological perspective.
