On My Doorknob Every Christmas

Hanging on my front door each Christmas morning is a wonderful selection of cookies from my friend Melissa. I've known, and worked with, Melissa for, gulp, almost thirty years. Starting around Thanksgiving, Melissa and her husband Kevin start baking all sorts of holiday treats—cookies, brittles and fudge. Melissa actually saves a week of her vacation to take at that time of year for their baking. And then each and every Christmas morning, goodness knows how many of their friends and family are able to open their front doors and find this amazing selection of goodies. I wish I had thought to scan these treats when I first received them, several types are already gone, lol. I think I literally inhaled the fudge… It's a great tradition, hugely appreciated!

  1. They look absolutely delicious. I get cookies from my downstairs neighbor and they are so good. Even though I bake I LOVE getting treats from friends too.

    How's your snow?

  3. lol, that's OK! it's frigid here, the wind is still howling outside, coming right through the walls and windows, but the snow wasn't bad at all. I'm just glad I don't have to go outside at all for a while.

  4. Melissa and Kevin must be lovely people..this is a really wonderful thing to do.

By the way, you have inspired me to get started on my own blog... mostly concerning my photography and life in a barn, high atop Vinegar Ridge, overlooking the Foggy Coast Line of Northern California.

    many thanks!

  6. Yes they are, Jim! I hope you get a blog going. It's a LOT of work, lol, but I've gotten more out of it than I every thought, in surprising ways. I'd love to see your photography, and your hilltop barn sounds fantastic! I love the name Vinegar Ridge, too, so evocative!

A note: I actually thought about my blog back in 2006, and set up the title etc. I couldn't focus at the time and figure out what it was going to be about, so I let it sit for almost 4 years, completely blank. Then one morning I just dove into the deep end and started putting up stuff. You just have to do it. The rest will follow. I've realized that about a lot of things now.
