Right on Time, Christmas Amaryllis Blooms

The box stated "Plant by Thanksgiving, Flowers by Christmas," and dang if it wasn't true. When I posted this Amaryllis's buds two days ago, I really didn't think they would bloom so quickly. These three blossoms opened up Friday afternoon, Christmas Eve day. I shot the photo above in the east-facing window the plant has been growing in. Below, I brought the plant outside to see how it looked in natural light. I added some color to the composition with the painted base of one of my new pieces and the plaid paint treatment on my porch rocker. The additional colors and patterns contrast perfectly with the red and white stripes of the petals. Both photos are clickable thumbnails, as always.

  1. The amarylis is gorgeous, but I'm more intrigued by the "art and colour" treatment you did to the chair that it's sitting on - awesome!

  2. Merry Christmas all!

The amarylis is an amazing plant. I didn't comment on the earlier shot of the buds but it reminded me a lot of the taillights of the 59 Cadillac!

  3. Beautiful, Miss Amaryllis looks like she is smiling. I like the artandcolour treatment as will.

X, Paul hope you both had a nice Xmas. It snowed here yesterday all day and was so beautiful. This old California gal loves it when she gets a White Christmas.

  6. CASEY, WHEN I LOOKED AT THAT BEAUTIFUL FLOWER I FIRSTT THOUGHT OF YOUR AUNT AND YOUR MOM. JUST MAYBE IT'S THEIR WAY OF HOLDING YOU FOR JUST A MOMENT ON THIS CHRISTMAS DAY. LOVELY THOUGHT.

I DECIDED TO STAY HOME. GRAMPS LEFT FOR CHRISTMAS WITH THE KIDS. IT'S A TWO HOUR DRIVE FROM HERE. IT'S NO BIG DEAL FOR ME. RIDING WITH GRAMPS FOR TWO HOURS IS A BIG DEAL. LAUGH OUT LOUD. NO J/K. JUST TO MUCH FOR ME ANYMORE. DRIVING OVER, THEN RUSH THROUGH THE DAY AND DRIVING ALL THE WAY BACK. THE BODY HAS SLOWED DOWN TO MUCH. THEY'LL BE MAD BUT SO BE IT. ANOTHER THING I LEARNED IN LIFE FINALLY. DO WHAT YOU WANT NOT WHAT'S EXPECTED. TODAY THE BODY SAID NO.

DID I TELL YOU THE LITTLE BOY NEXT DOOR BROUGHT ME A PLATE OF CHRISTMAS COOKIES. I HAD JUST SAID ON THE PHONE TO MY DAUGHTER,I WISH SOMEONE WOULD BRING ME SOME CHRISTMAS COOKIES. THEN THE DOORBELL RANG AND THERE WAS THE LITTLE BOY WITH A PLATE OF ALL KINDS OF COOKIES. NOW THAT'S WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT.

  7. I hope you had a nice Christmas anyway, Granny. I had a package of cookies on my doorknob too. A friend I've known for 30 years makes many different types of Xmas cookies every year and then leaves them for us on our doors. Nice tradition.

I hope everyone had a peaceful day. I'm going back to watching Thunderball right now!

  8. I DID HAVE A GREAT DAY. I'M JUST SITTING HERE STEWING BECAUSE I ASK GRAMPS TO GET BACK BEFORE DARK. DARKNESS IS SLOWING SETTING IN ON US. HE'LL DO WHAT HE WANTS ANYWAYS BUT IT WOULD BE NICE FOR ONCE IF HE'D DO WHAT I ASK.LOL LOVE THE FLOWER PICTURE, ALWAY NICE.

    THE NAGGING GRANNY

THE NAGGING GRANNY IS JUST GOING TO SAY. THE REASON I SAY THIS, ONE NIGHT WE WERE COMING BACK FROM MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE, HE STARTED TO MAKE A TURN THINKING IT WAS THE CORNER THAT WE WERE SUPPOSE TO TURN ON. INSTEAD HE TURNED INTO A DOCTORS PARKING LOT. HE ACTED LIKE IT WAS A BIG JOKE. YAH, BIG JOKE. I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS FUNNY.PLUS, I DON'T THINK IT FUNNY THAT HE HASN'T GOT HIS BUTT HOME YET. IT'S EVEN DARKER NOW. BYE, I NEED TO GET MY ROLLING PIN. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET CLOBBER WHEN HE WALKS IN THE DOOR. J/K
