My 2011 SEMA Charger

My 2011 SEMA Charger R/T, top, original press photo, below.

C H O P — Not really my cuppa tea, but the new Charger really cried out for the SEMA treatment. I enlarged the new grille and made the front end even more aggressive. The rest is paint and trim, including a darkened roof and green house, polished aluminum mirror casings, and a painted hood treatment evocative of the '67-'68 Mustang.

  1. CASEY, DID I EVER TELL YOU THAT GRAMPS USED TO CALL ME HENRIETTE HOTROD. AT THAT TIME IS WHEN WE OWNED THE 1960 AUSTIN HEALY SPRITE. THOSE WERE THE GOOD DAYS. I GUESS IT THE ONE REASON I HATE GIVING UP THE MAZDA. AT LEAST I CAN LOOE AT IT. WE ALSO HAD A 1979 MG-MIDGET THAT GRAMPS RESTORED IN 1993. RED IN COLOR AND BEIGE TOP. LOVE MY CONVERTABLES.

  3. The Charger isn't my cup of tea either although I must say I think they've done a great job of updating it and you've taken it a step further. I rented a Charger once and it was very nice to drive. Appearance-wise, I much prefer the 300 and I can't wait to see what they've done as far as updating that!

I'm surprised to hear that you haven't had a lot of time in convertibles! I guess I'm fortunate in that I always had neighborhood friends whose mothers drove convertibles. One of my fondest memories is of kneeling on the back seat of Mrs. Hauter's 51 Chevrolet convertible and waving to the people behind us. I guess kids don;t get to do that much anymore. In fact, when Mrs. H traded her 51 for a 58 Impala convertible that came with seat belts, from then on we always had to be seated and belted. Another neighbor with a 48 Continental and later a 53 Capri convertible and a 59 Continental, was less cautious -- and we survived!

I've also been fortunate to have owned a couple of convertibles -- a 67 Skylark and a 71 Super Beetle. My brother had a 55 Sunliner and a 64 Falcon with the 260 V8 and 4 speed (not a Sprint) and an Austin-Healy Sprite when he was stationed in Europe.

  4. PAUL AND CASEY, I LAUGH BECAUSE ONE DAY LAST YEAR I TOOK THE CAR FOR A RIDE. I ALWAYS TOOK GOOD CARE OF MY PRETTY BLONDE HAIR. ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN FALLING OUT ALOT THESE PAST FEW MONTHS.IT'S NOT AS EASY TO KEEP STYLED AS YEARS AGO, ANYWAYS, I HAD MY SUN VISOR ON AND CLIPPING DOWN THE ROAD, RADIO PLAYING A TUNE, ME PROBABLY SINGING WHEN A TRUCK DRIVER CAME UP ALONG THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I TRULY BELIEVE HE WAS GOING TO FLIRT WITH ME. WHEN I LOOK UP AT HIM I WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANYTHING TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS THINKING. I JUST STARTED TO LAUGH.FROM THE BACK I LOOKED ONE WAY AND FROM THE FRONT LAUGH OUT LOUD. SO FUNNY YOU GOT TO LOVE CONVERTIABLE.

  5. I can't think of any neighbors that had convertibles except for one '70 Cadillac. My parents had a '56 Sunliner when I was born but don't remember it at all. I've ridden in a '64 Impala, '69 LeMans, mie '70s Fiat 124 and a 2005 Porsche 911 Cab. I think that's it in my entire life! Oh, a Nash-Healey once, but only about 5 minutes. I'm pretty light with the ragtops.
