135i Kompact, 2 seat hatch new entry-level US offering, offers optional rear bucket seats.
1 series Hybrid-only 5 door DualGate hatch system. Hybrid drive I4 offers 58 mpg combined EPA cycles.
C H O P S — Chopped from the same 135i Coupe, front and rear views. The rear view shows a smaller 3 door hatchback that's not the euro-version hatch. My 135i Kompact is based on the longer-for-the-USA Coupe body, but would have only 2 seats and a state-of-the-art modular rear loading compartment. Small rear buckets would be optional. Think of a 135i-Original Scirocco, and you won't be too off.
The lower photo is the same coupe chopped into a hybrid-only 5 door sedan. It would be labeled a 1- series but would push the boundaries of the 3- in size. Hybrid-only five door hatch would have the Dual/Gate hatch/trunklid as the 5GT, but with more of a 3-box sedan profile. All hybrids bring in a new interpretation of the twin-nostril grille intakes. They are taller and narrower than in years past when they seemed to grow in the opposite direction, and have a more classic appearance ringed in chrome with chrome vanes.
I did several versions of each of these, lol. I got sick of working on them, so I had to post... I might go back to these at some point and finesse them.
I like the idea and lines of your 1 Series Hatch but would really be impressed with a 120d hybrid drivetrain. Jump seats would be a must with how insurance companies rate 2 seat only cars. I always liked the Merc Kompressors, this would be even better. Not feeling the 4 door. From a business side, it would canabalize 3 Series sales most likely.

Casey...
ReplyDeleteHave you ever chopped the language of the original 2002 onto a current Bimmer? I always thought that was the route the 1 Series should have gone instead of just another face in BMW's family photo.
There is a reason the Mini, Mustang & even the Bug [10 years ago] were successful The 2002 is on par with those design icons.

diesels are good! BMWs are hard to chop because they're all such niche vehicles these days, there's not much room to chop them into anything else, lol. A softer 2002- inspired modern car might be hot! i loved the big Bavaria sedans back then too, as well as the very first 530i. so classic yet contemporary.
