Bentley Greenbrier: 5-Doors, AWD, V10TDi Hybrid

The Greenbrier is taller than the Continental on which it's based, with a 12" longer wheelbase despite the same overall length. Click image to see more closely the tailored details of this upper-crust British crossover sedan.

C H O P — A totally new niche is explored by Bentley with this new Greenbrier, a 5-door crossover sedan, with a V10 TDi Hybrid powerplant and AWD. The wheels are pushed to the corners for maximum interior room for its 4 well-heeled occupants, along with their fitted luggage. Aimed at those Sloan Rangers no longer comfortable driving their top-shelf SUVs in town, this new ruggedly handsome and upright Greenbrier Hybrid by Bentley will fit their needs like a bespoke Savile Row suit or Christian Louboutin footwear for M'Lady.

Chop based on the Flying Star Shooting Brake concept.

  3. A Merkur Scorpio...by Bentley...for the Queen. Hope she know's it's simply the most Luxurious "People's Car" now a days...but she should be ok with it... there's plenty of German blood in her veins.

Looks good, evokes the high rear-set cabins of 30's and 40's luxury marks. But will anyone ever do a prestigious hatch again???

  5. Casey,
I hate to counterpoint everything but I question if a "fastback" hatch personifies luxury enough for this segment. How about a "shooting brake" design, still maintaining the hatchback design, but with a Dodge Magnum as the inspiration ?
No new ground, but it would be one sexy Bentley.

  6. i like the counterpoints! i like the dialogue! You're probably correct that Bentley, or any other über lux mfr wouldn't build a car that looked like this, but that's why I do. the best choppers out there get paid to create actual 'future' cars for websites and magazines. i don't get paid by anyone, so I'm totally free to do what I personally would like to see being made, and for the most part, that's not what anyone would really build. i'd like to live in a world that found it acceptable to build a fastback hatchback with a Bentley's build quality, performance and reputation. Somehow I think I'm about 10-15 years ahead of the biz.

  7. ...or according to my 88 Merkur Scorpio, 23 years *behind* the biz. The Mazda 6 hatch looked MUCH better than the sedan imho and not that my eye likes it but BMW will be glad to sell you a $75,000 5 Series Gran Turismo that has a nifty 2 stage hatch.

Other markets like the functionality and style of the hatchback, it basically died here when the Escort hatch gave way to the Focus shooting brake.

Casey... I'd love to know your top ten favorite chops that you've done. I've got my list from your collection and I was surprised that they aren't all Ford products.

  8. I'll look forward to that Mondeo Hatch. Like I said in my last post, The Mazda 6 Hatch had far superior lines than the sedan and those 2 models are kissing cousins.

  9. "23 years behind the biz." That's about the way I live too, I don't have a cell phone and have never even texted, lol. of course, I'm home everyday so I don't really need one...

i honestly don't think I could pick a 10Best list... maybe for that minute, but it would change soon after. i have favorites for the styling, favorites for the technical aspects, favorites for sentimental reasons, lol. i'll think about it though. could be a good post.
