As Smooth as Peggy Lee in '53—Audi A8C

Standing the test of time, this s-m-o-o-t-h Audi A8 Coupe was chopped in 2007 or early 2008. I'm not sure the A5 was even out at the time, but this A8C certainly looks like its big brother in today's light. I did a second version with a longer roofline, a fastback/hatchback, but it wasn't as balanced looking. I'll find it for a future post of awkward chops, lol. I lengthened the hood and steering wheel-to-axle ratio to make room for a brand new straight 8. Hah! Can you imagine?

B T W :
By the way, Peggy Lee, in 1953, was in a remake of the Jazz Singer, Al Jolson's classic film. Danny Thomas starred alongside Peggy, and while I haven't seen it, it's apparently quite awesome. You can check it out at this amazon link. She was married for the second time in 1953, and also released the classic Black Coffee. As smooth as Peggy Lee in '53 would have to be pretty damn smooth!

I was lucky enough to see Peggy Lee perform twice, both times in the early '90s.I brought my mother the second time, in Manhattan, and we had a great time in the city, one of my now-classic Mom and Son memories  : )

  1. I saw Peggy Lee perform live too. It was in the 60's in San Francisco. I was great.

  2. I LOVED Peggy Lee. I have a lot of her recordings, though most are on old cassettes. I have several 78 records of her when she was with the big bands. ONe of these days i'm going to treat myself to one of those new record players that record digital tapes as you spin the records. How cool is that!?!? I used to comment at a Peggy Lee fan site for a while with a couple of my life-long friends. she has some real fanatics, trust me! My friends and I xeroxed her face on monopoly money and made Peggy Lee Money to trade amongst ourselves, lol.

  3. Annie: I didn't mean to let "San Francisco in the '60s" go unmentioned by the way. You're my hero! I can't imagine a relatively recent time and place I'd rather visit if I could go back in time. So much of the way I think is from what I've read about of the period. I really think i'm a hippie in the truest sense of the word. just a little late!

  4. OMG, putting Peggy's face on Monopoly money now that is too funny. She had a unique style, there is no one like her. I'm going to see if I can get her on Pandora now and listen while I finish up some work.

I have a photoshop question but I will ask it later.....

  7. Nice way to describe your chop! I too would have to say I am SO jealous of your SF days Annie! How in the world did you make it from there to middle America?
Casey, Pandora is a music service that plays through recommendations. You put in a song you would like and can give it a thumbs up or down (you get 6 passes in an hour's time I believe) and it eventually builds a music library especially customized to your taste..I had thought no way would it work, but finally I can listen for quite a while before I pass...I use it on my phone too and makes great "on the go" music...My son tried to get me to use it several years ago and I didn't have the patience...imagine...Really didn't take that much patience and it does work...give it a try..

  8. Pandora is a make up your own radio station. I just heard about it on Charlie Rose. It is free for 40 hrs a month, but I opted for a year at $36. I love it. You just type in a name or style and it creates a station of similar music. You can keep creating stations. I love it. Give it a try. I think it's Pandora.com but google it to make sure. Doris Day is playing now.

  11. Mare and all - I got from SF to Mid-America via Hawaii - lol. Long story but when you have time, awhile back I did a series on Places I Have Lived on my blog. A history for my kids and grand kids of my very gypsy life.

I am third generation Southern California, Great-Grand Dad came to CA via covered wagon in 1850. When people ask where I'm from I still say CA, but that I live in St. Louis.

Actually lived in Albany, CA a suburb of Berkeley while my husband attended UCB. Our treat was to go to the big city SF for a night out. I'm not sure how we afforded it: Smother Brothers, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald are all memories of live performances. It had to have been a lot cheaper in those days. Or maybe it was only three nights out during our three year stint there. LOL

  12. Annie: I added "This and That" to my blog roll at the lower right. Hope you don't mind! I can always take it out if you don't want the added million per day hits I get. hahahahaha. Let me know!

  13. OK, Casey, thanks that is nice. I don't mind. I added yours but never thought to ask if it was OK. Sorry. By the way I checked out Jonathan's Channeling Julia Child. He seems delightful. Going to try some recipes I love to cook.

  14. For those interested my series on places I lived begins in March 2009: http://helloartichokeannie.blogspot.com/2009/03/going-home-again.html
I'm not sure how to make that a link, maybe Casey can help. I would post each Friday after that until I end up where I am now.

I'm going to rack my brains on cars I have owned and then ask Casey for help on that one.

  16. Just finished reading your $1.19 Car of the Week blogs. That was fun. I wonder what my son and grandsons have done with all their little cars. I remember buying a ton of them when they were all little guys.

  17. Casey et al,

If you don't have the "Latin a la Lee" CD you are missing out! It's a terrific album -- a bit kitschy but there's still that Lee sound used on some great songs.

I got mine at Books a Million in Augusta Georgia a few years back for a very low price!
