Slightly More Colorful than Grey Gardens

The new hydrangea is in full bloom right now, and looks so fresh in the mornings—almost pretty enough to make me wake up before noon. I absolutely adore this photograph. I think it could be the cover of Yankee Magazine or Martha Stewart Living if I do say so myself, lol. Clickable of course.

H A D E   G A R D E N — This photo was shot this morning on the north side of the house in my shade garden. The lighting is pretty much the textbook definition of 'dappled.' The hydrangea has settled into a lovely pinkish lavender hue, which contrasts beautifully with the newly-primed clapboards and the existing teal shutters. The final coat will be a very slightly darker salmon, and we're thinking of keeping the teal trim for the doors and shutters, which is a paint by a company that replicates Sturbridge Village colonial-era paint hues from actual historic paint chips. This view reminds me of a slightly more colorful version of Grey Gardens, minus the interior raccoons, prompting me to consider naming the house Pink Gardens... : )

  2. what a beautiful vision! I used to run through fields of flowers when I was a child, sometimes just laying in them and watching the clouds drift by, smelling all the wildflowers. wouldn't be a bad thing to do forever!

  3. I'M GETTING CLOSER TO HEAVEN EVERYDAY. I'D RATHER BELIEVE IN GOD AND GO TO HEAVEN THAN NOT BELIEVE AND HAVE IT TURN OUT THAT THERE IS A GOD AND GO TO HELL. BELIEVING JUST GIVES ME PEACE. THE FLOWERS WOULD JUST BE A BONUS. DON'T YOU THINK.YOU HAVE GOOD AND EVIL. I CHOOSE GOOD. GRANNY

  4. I'm not that far from 'the next stage' myself, one reason i'm writing this blog and writing my memoir too. whatever gives you peace TG is what you should believe in. I'm not a follower of any specific religion, although my parents made sure I studied every major one so I could have a base of thought for the subject. After a very difficult life, I now live my life trying to do good things for people, for strangers whenever I can. I took care of both of my parents in their dying years, quitting my jobs to stay at home with them. If I get through the day having done more good than bad, and I do every day, I'm at peace.

  6. i love to have people come and enjoy the gardens! "Pink Gardens" is a huge rambling old farmhouse. part of it was built in the 1700s and most of it in 1850 or so. We have ghosts, but I get along with all of them! I grew up in a 300 year old house full of ghosts too, so I'm used to them.

There are 5 apartments in this house. Mine is on three floors, about 2500 sq ft, so i have a lot of space for all of my collections. We have really nice tenants/neighbors and the owner is a friend of mine. I've put in all of the flower gardens myself, and we share the veggie garden. t costs most of my meager income to live here, but it's the most awesome place i can think for me. It's the only house on a private road, completely isolated, but we're right in town, so I can ride my bike everywhere. I still have a '99 Infiniti Q45t, the big one, but i've only put 500 miles on it in 3 years! i've lived here for 8 years, and will probably live here forever.
