$1.19 Car of the Week #7—Aston Martin DBS!

M Y   C O L L E C T I O N — Oh yes I did! To complete my Aston Martin marathon, I just had to buy one! I found this Silver DBS with bright red "leather" interior today in my favorite grocery story toy aisle, for the now-standard $1.19. It was too perfect a coincidence to pass it up, and I don't even believe in coincidences! It was meant to be. I can only wonder when the real one will darken my doorstep, er, driveway. Whomever is listening, I wouldn't mind a silver/red version, but in a perfect world, I'd drive one that was Moss Green on the outside and dark Henna inside with Moss Green Alcantara inserts on the Nappa leather bucket seats. I don't even "need" the V12 DBS, the V8 Vantage will be good enough! hahahahahahaha! I crack myself up sometimes!

N O T E :  I told myself that if I ever reached 100 posts in one month, I'd take the rest of the month off. Well, I made it, so I'm taking the entire rest of August off. Which means, I'll be back with a new post on Wednesday, September 1st. Which means I'm taking Tuesday off, lol. I need to rest my finger anyway, I slammed it again today. Funny how the one bum finger ALWAYS gets in the way even though there are nine good ones that could step up if they felt like it!

I'd like to thank everyone that reads my blog for inspiring me to dig deeper each day and come up with new posts. If you look through this blog's history, I was only creating 30-40 posts a month until all of you started finding this blog earlier this summer. Because of your interest, your interesting lives, and your interesting comments, I've done more with this blog than I ever thought I would last February when I created casey/artandcolour. I'm humbled and excited at the same time. Hopefully this is only the beginning of a wild and windy drive with good friends down that long and winding [blog] road. A heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone.

See you Wednesday! : )

  1. Searched the available inventory stateside and couldn't find your Moss Green/ Dark Henna color choice so I'll have to order it. The company representative said the order could be processed faster if the seat inserts were Nappa leather. Apparently, there is a shortage of Alcantara. Is it OK to place the order that way or do you want to wait the estimated 6-9 months for Alcantara availability to be restored ? Please let me know.

  2. Casey, I agree about coincidences...in that I don't believe in them...I do believe in "meant to be." Don't know what it was about your name on Ross' blog that made me click on it, but so glad I did...also have LOVED the ripple effect...so cool to watch it grow.
    Congrats on your 100 posts!

  5. Casey, I finished The Gold-Plated Porsche and enjoyed every page. What a delightful story-teller Stephan Wilkinson is, he can flit from subject to subject and keep continuity. It made me miss my little Tangerine 912 - those Porsches are a love story.

I was delighted and surprised with his flying stories; for about five years I dated a commercial pilot / former Marine aviator who owned a little Cessna - I think it was a 180, great little truck of a plane. We flew all over and landed on dirt stripes in Baja and sat in little FBO's for hours waiting for storms to clear, it was lots of fun. I never wanted to be a pilot and was content to sit in the right seat, but I did attend ground school as a precaution should an emergency arise I could probably at least operate the radio.

While I read the book I remembered that I had a little "automotive" background that I hadn't thought about in years. During the Berkeley years when my husband was a student I worked for McQuay-Norris at their warehouse in Emeryville, CA. Basically my duty was to keep the District Sales Manager's desk in order. He was on the road 90% of the time. To this day I remember from the order sheets that PC-xx was for water pumps and FA-xx were values.

So while I couldn't build a car, I have processed orders for just about every part type Wilkinson mentions in his book.

I remember AIM and the takeover of Alcatraz Island - 37 years ago? Wow, time does fly. I say Wilkinson is one lucky guy to have managed to keep out of jail during his various capers and we are lucky too to be able to read all about it from his very own fingertips.

    Good read, thanks again Casey.

  7. Ah, the Alcantara. They are such elusive creatures out in the wild - perhaps the reason for the shortage. :)

  8. ah, the wild alcantara! lol

SO glad you enjoyed the book! and what a fascinating life you've had Annie! i have to refresh my memory, but McQuay-Norris built a very aerodynamic vehicle in the 1930s I believe, sort of a counterpart to BUcky Fuller's Dymaxions. I think it might have used a Ford chassis, but I'm stretching into realms of my brain that are pretty dusty, lol.

PX: I don't mind waiting for the alcantara inserts. I've been waiting for 53 years already, lol.

watching the reports about Earl. we have trees come down on this property every time it rains, so I'm sure if we get any wind, we'll be without power for a while. I'm going out for a walk today and take photos of the town today, it has never looked better in the late summer.

  9. CAsey,

I remember the McQuay-Norris cars. They were featured in early EARLY issues of SIA. They built 12 of them, if I recall correctly, and they were used by regional salesman to travel around to various repair shops, dealers and gas stations selling M-N's products. They were Ford V8s and I think I've read that there are a few survivors.

OF COURSE I'D HAVE TO HAVE A LONG SCARF THAT WOULD FLY IN THE AIR AND A BUG SHIELD FOR MY TEETH. NOW,JUST PICTURE GRAMPS [80 YEARS OLD] DRIVING IT AND ME IN THE SIDECAR WITH MY LITTLE JOEY[DOG] SITTING ON MY LAP. I THINK THAT'S A FUNNY PICTURE. YOU SEE I LIKE OPEN AIR. CONVERTIBLE ARE MY THING. I HAD A MOTORCYCLE WHEN I LIVED IN TEXAS UNTIL I HAD AN ACCIDENT GOING AROUND A CORNER THINKING I SAW A LARGE SNAKE IN THE ROAD. I RAN INTO A FENCE. LOL THE SNAKE WAS ALREADY DEAD. HE GOT THE LAST LAUGH BECAUSE HE SCARED ME TO DEATH. I NEVER DROVE IT AGAIN. I HAVE TO ADMIT I LOVED RIDING THAT THING.

  18. My copy of HAPPY TRAILS arrived today. Very nice job, Casey, it truly felt like flipping through the pages of an album. I won't say I was a Roy Rogers fan, it was more like he was a member of the family on the TV screen in our living room and going to see the movies he made, it was just something you did. Our family celebrated the joys in his life and shared the pain of his sorrows. Again thank you for bringing to my attention something I would have otherwise missed.

  20. Granny, I'll be back tomorrow, Wednesday! My aunt Hoohoo used to ride a motorcycle on occasion too! I think it might have mostly been sitting behind her husband though: )

Annie: I'm so happy you're able to look through Happy Trails! There isn't a whole lot to read, but I think it's great to look through. I didn't realize they had so much tragedy in their lives before I worked on the book.

Did anyone find the hidden Beatle's song, lol? One of my favorites.

  21. Yes we did and also the not so hidden Yoko. lol

i really like Yoko. I wish I could show her my art some how. Her stuff was always much more cerebral, but I think she'd appreciate the time and effort and the colors. if i ever have a show in NYC i'm going to invite her!
