Fully and Tightly Wrapped. Unlike Me . . .

M Y  A R T — The view looking up at a few of my pieces on the wall at home. You can see how I fully wrap the paint or the imagery around the corners and edges of my piece. I don't frame my pieces, and hope that future 'collectors' never do either. I'm planning on using several vintage frames in my next series, but they will be affixed to the front of the pieces, becoming an integral part of them, rather than just outlining the art inside. Click to see the details of these pieces in greater detail.

  1. CASEY, I JUST WISH I COULD STAND LONG ENOUGH AND CREATE A LARGE PICTURE LIKE YOUR STYLE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS. THE THING I LIKE ARE YOUR COLORS. THEY WOULD FIT RIGHT IN WITH MY DECOR. I WOULD EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. OH NEVER MIND SOMEDAY. LOL SOMEDAY.I SAY THAT ALOT. LOL, AGAIN.I DO LIKE THAT YOU DON'T FRAME YOUR ART. MY GRANDMOTHER ON DADS' SIDE WAS AN ARTIST AND FROM THE FEW PICTURES I SAW THEY WEREN'T FRAMED.

  3. THANK YOU CASEY FOR THE THOUGHT. THAT'S WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG BUDDIES LOVE YOU. I MAY TRY SOMEDAY TO MAKE A SMALL PICTURE FIRST AND IF IT TURNS OUT THEN I'LL TRY FOR BIGGER GOALS. [DREAMS] LOL BEACUSE I CAN'T EVEN GET MY HOUSEWORK DONE ANYMORE. FIVE MINUTES HERE AND FIVE MINUTES THERE. I JUST HATE KILLING DUST BUNNIES.

  4. here's another of my mother's little gems I live by, she said it all the time: "Housekeeping is highly overrated." lol. I have a little wrought iron trivet on my wall she bought in Pennsylvania Dutch country one year. It says "Our house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy." i live by that!

  5. I love that saying ! (I'll have to get your permission to use it!)

Any framework on these pieces would only distract from the art, not enhance them. It would be a shame to hide all the extra work you put into the edges.

  6. I feel that your art pieces are meant to be admired and not "touched". HOWEVER, I am a very tactile person and would love to run my hand along the edge where the art continues...it's a type of "infinity" art (at least in my mind) the piece of work continues on past what we can see. Looks as though you have a nice expanse on which to display your work.
Px...do you have a blog? I have checked a couple times to see if your name lead anywhere. You have such wonderful insights and I just know I would enjoy what you would have to share.

  8. Mare: actually i encourage letting people touch my art. i even call it 'furniture grade' because i use so many topcoats of polyurethane. you can dust them with Pledge, lol, although a clean damp rag would be better. I think it's one more step in my art not being 'uppity' or high-brow! which again bothers many artists. they prefer to think of what we all do as very special and very hands off like we're somehow elevated, lol. drives me nuts! and i drive them nuts so there's the yin-yang!

  9. Hi Casey and Everyone - Happy Weekend to you all. I'm taking a little time out from Panama Canal cruise research to catch up on my blog favorites; everyone has been busy.

I've been sitting too long and should go and stand and paint in my kitchen/studio. I've been staring at this one painting I did and I really don't like it, I think I may paint something over it - maybe I will plaid-it a la Casey, and let the parts I don't like just peek out here and there.

Enjoy your birthday dinner for Mom, I like that idea, Casey.

  10. Hi Annie,
Everything looks better with a few stripes painted over it! I have a friend that lives in Panama if you need any 'inside' information. Enjoy the day!

  11. Granny: forgot to mention this above, but there's no reason you have to stand to create art! I sit down quite a bit when I'm working on the detailed parts. I have a couple of fused lower back vertabrae from a car acccident when i was a kid, so my back aches if I lean over too much. I just do what is comfortable for me. no one cares how the art is created as long as it's created!

GRANNY -- GIVE YOUR HAND A TRY AT ART. YOU ARE ARTFUL WITH WORDS AND I THINK YOU HAVE AN ARTIST'S SOUL, SO GO FOR IT! WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE? I THINK YOU CAN DO IT! XOX

  14. KATHY, I DABBLED A LITTLE IN TOLE PAINTING AND DID ALOT OF CERAMIC PIECES WAY BACK IN TIME. I WAS SO HOOK THAT I GAVE MY KILN AWAY. I SPENT WAY TO MUCH MONEY AND DECIDED AT THE TIME ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH. GAVE EVERYTHING AWAY WHICH I REGRET TO THIS DAY. I ONLY HAVE FOUR PIECES. AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, I'M A GIVER NOT A TAKER. I DO REGRET GIVING TWO OF MY VASES AWAY. I DID CLAY LIFTING ON THEM AND THEY TURNED OUT BEAUTIFUL. ONE VASE WENT TO MY MOTHER IN LAW I NEVER EVER SAW THAT VASE ON A TABLE OR ANYWHERE IN MILS' HOUSE.THE OTHER WENT TO MY BEST FRIEND. MY FRIEND ALWAYS HAD IT OUT ON A TABLE OR STAND IN HER HOUSE. SHE LOVED THAT VASE. SHE'S GONE NOW AND NOONE KNOWS WHERE THE VASE DISAPPEARED. OH WELL, SHE GOT TO ENJOY IT WHILE SHE WAS ALIVE. GEE, MAYBE I COULD BE KNOWN AS GRANDMA LOU LIKE THAT OTHER FAMOUS ARTIST MOSES.I'VE GOT TO GET OFF OF HERE. MY TV SHOW COPS IS ON. LOVE THAT SHOW.
MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY THIS WEEKEND. GRANNY
