How About a Coupe in the new Elantra Lineup?

C H O P — The new Elantra (Avante outside of the USA) is going to be available here shortly. The four door's lines are so coupe-like, all I really had to do was delete the four smaller doors and add 2 longer doors that most coupes use. I've created two versions, one 'normal' and one with the dipped rear beltline like the Hyundai Genesis coupe. I don't think Hyundai will actually make a coupe in this market segment, and if they did I don't think they'd crib the Genesis Coupe's most unique feature, but hey, that's why I make fake cars, because they won't! I also darkened the front fascia, following the production sedan's built-in curves, and added the chrome and black rocker panel moldings I favor. I also changed the wheels on both, using an Acura's dubs on the top rendering (adding Hyundai logos of course), and the Genesis Coupe's wheels on the lower chop.

Woody Thompson has kindly posted these chops at his site, Woody's Car Site, giving my chops more exposure!

  1. Hi Casey,

I saw your Elantra over at Woody's when he 1st posted it. Nice. I'd like Hyundai or Kia to make a Civic Si competitor. I don't know if they'd be taken seriously by the JDM crowd, though.

Do you ever send things to Autoblog? Every now and then they'll post someone's chop. That would be big exposure.

Before I go...one more silly question - Have you ever done a modern El Camino or Ranchero? I'll always have a soft spot for those two.

    Thanks.

  2. I can't even get Autoblog to acknowledge me in an email. I can't post comments there either. I have no idea why. They published some pretty homophobic stuff in an article once, and I commented on it, when I was still allowed to comment, then all of a sudden I couldn't comment anymore. Some of their chops are horrible that they publish also. I"ve even done chops using photos from their galleries and sent them to them and they haven't published them and haven't even emailed me back. I gave up!

  4. Hey NuHu! Thanks so much! I checked your link out, I really like your sketches! You've got the new Kia brand down perfectly, as envisioned by Peter Schreyer. I have so little time to chop these days, i can't really say when I'm going to be able to do one, usually late at night before I crash out. I'm going to keep checking your Flickr account though. Do you keep adding to it? I'd like to post some of your sketches here one of these days. I'd like to start featuring new work by new people once in a while.

  6. cool. i hope you're studying art, or at least taking some lessons. Your style shows promise. Your overall shapes are well-considered and you pick out cool details that work well too. I hope you bookmarked my blog and check it out from time-to-time. I post chops and lots of stuff about cars, as well as my art and my book designs and my vast collection of antique crap, lol.

  9. oh that's awesome! I'm glad to hear you're studying what you are. I really wanted to be a car designer when i was younger but was talked out of going into it by a guidance counselor. I ended up graduating from Vassar and have had a decent career deisgning publications, but my one and only true love would have been designing cars. I've heard from a few retired car designers lately, and they like my fake cars. That was great to hear! Keep me posted on how things go for you in the future please.
