Reaching for the [Cloudy] Sky

This sunflower is already taller than I am. Three sunflower plants reached maturity, and all three have multiple buds. The wild shapes of the budding flowers are so exotic looking to me. I'd say they're elegant too, in a Martha Stewart sort of way.

Wisps and curls and points and swirls, oh my! This can only be a sunflower bud. This plant is about six feet tall, and the largest bud, pictured here, is almost nine inches wide. So far!

  1. Now don't leave us hanging on this one - your going to have to do regular updates. Can't wait to see what kind of "face" this sunflower will have !

  2. oh you can be sure I will! I've never grown sunflowers before. Another resident of Pink Gardens, Rick, planted a few sunflowers, but only one came up. Mary and I planted a few seeds, and only 2 have matured. I don't know what variety any of them are yet. I like the pale yellow ones the most, but it doesn't matter. They're all quite spectacular I think. And the birds love'em!

  5. OH, you'll see the flowers! Sometimes I think I must be a pretty boring blogger, I seem to just take photos of my yard and flowers, lol. I have about 15 'serious' posts under way about my collectibles etc, family items etc, but they all need more research and/or scans and/or a piece of this or that I haven't done yet, so I sort of fall back into just posting new flower pics. I'll get some more substantial posts done soon. But you can be sure I'll post any cool new flowers! and butterflies! and cars!
