When is a Sunflower a Lemon?

When it's a Lemon Sunflower, duh! The first of my sunflowers is fully open now, and is a pretty buttery-lemon yellow. The flower is about 9 inches wide and the stalk is a little more than six feet tall with two more buds to come.

  1. I've never grown sunflowers before this year either. They were finicky to start with, I must have lost 6 or 7 of them, but once they got to about 2 feet tall, they grew thicker and stronger. Next year I'm going to plant a couple dozen of them to make sure I have several reach maturity. I love the paler versions, like this lemon one. I've seen some almost white, which I'll try to find too.
