World War 1 Postcard—Printing Error AND Art!

"After the Hike" indeed—amusing subject matter for a World War One propaganda postcard, printing ink mis-registration be damned! Click to enlarge.

M Y   C O L L E C T I O N — Scanning more than a hundred postcards tonight from the Great War, or World War One as it has become known, this one caught my eye. The subject matter is cute, the title being "After the Hike" but it was the way the card was printed, or mis-printed in reality that really makes it work in an artistic way. The alignment, or registration is WAY off. The blue plate must have slipped badly and the cards were released anyway. I didn't do any color work on this card at all, but it's worthy of enlarging and using on one of my wooden bases. The way everything is just "off" makes this a very artistic piece of propaganda to me.

  2. You never know where great art will come from! Love the colors. I'll be disappointed if you don't incorporate this image into one of your pieces.
