Lunar Landscapes in the Snow

Our yards and streets full of snow, the trees bare of their softening leaves, the afternoon sun seems to create much stronger shadows that at any other time of the year. Every bump and dimple in the snow takes on a heightened sense of chiaroscuro, the interplay of light and dark. Lawns become moonscapes, roadside piles become Arctic iceflows, limbs create shadows a mile long.

Not just a metaphor here, our Moon was actually visible the afternoon I shot these photos, here framed by the naked limbs of a winter tree.

Could just have easily been said to Casey by any of these beautiful snow shots.
