2 Door SWB Lexus LS, Pillared

I think there is no reason for Lexus to be absent from the large 2 door market. This version is the SWB (short wheelbase, in old coach-building terms). This would be the base for the Sport version, which would benefit the most from the pillared construction in torsional rigidity etc. Lexus would also market the LWB coupe, a long wheelbase model, with pillarless construction, for higher-end lux sales. Chop to come before its sale date, lol.

One of the minor changes I made was a cutline on the lower rear bumper cap, to match a similar rocker panel groove in the middle of the car. I think it makes the bumper look lower and the rear overhang look longer, which aids in the height/length visual proportion. I also added more obvious LED taillights and modified the chrome plinth molding. A full length glass roof should be standard on all luxury cars these days.

  1. Casey,

This one is terrific but I'm looking more forward to the LWB pillarless one!

  2. Looks great Casey! I like everything you did to this one. It's production ready and could be driven right into the showrooms to be sold tomorrow.

Nothing to say really just hello and hope your day is going well.

  4. I've seen chops of the Hyundai Eqqus coupe, but this looks far more classier. I don''t know why they don't build this, seriously how much longer is Toyota going to wait until the Koreans finally kill them?

  5. I remember the intro. of the SC 400 back in the early 90s. I had a boss who would buy a new Eldorado every 3 years. Clockwork. He never owned a four door anything - his wife got the four doors- lucky her.

Cadillac introduced a new Eldorado in 91 or 92 and that was the first time in his life he went to another brand. He felt badly about it too, but he just didn't like what Cadillac had done. He bought a dark red SC 400 with a camel colored leather interior.

He was an older Jewish gentleman and said that he thought he'd never buy a car from an "Axis" country - Japan, Italy or Germany. He was from the WWII generation.

What was my point? I have no idea.

The SC 430 left me cold. Lexus needs another nice (attractive)coupe.

  6. I remember the first Lexus coupe. it was stunning! If I remember they mentioned that it was 'balloon' design, meaning it looked as if air was blown under the skin and inflated, it was all really smooth and aero, And luxurious and fast! They were sort of an ultimate Thunderbird for Lexus and they've squandered that concept ever since.

I just did a pillarless coupe... sort of.

  8. Your almost right Casey! I loved the SC300 too! They used water balloons to help create the shape of this car so that the curves had a natural and organic shape to them.

  9. Straight 6 wasn't it...maybe from the Supra?

  10. My google memory says you are correct !

  11. the 300SC was great too, yes the inline 6 from the Supra. Was more balanced than the V8, but they usually came with smaller wheels too throwing the looks off a bit. I wouldn't mind one today. I'd say the original SC is a modern Asian classic.

  12. Casey,

Have you ever designed any car books?

I've seen the wildflowers, rock climbing, Miami, Roy Rogers, etc.

  13. i've designed on car book, 50 Cars to Drive, written by Dennis Adler. It's a pretty cool book, with lots of photos of cars you might be familiar with, and some you might not be. Jay Leno lent his Muira for example, and he helped pick the 50 cars. I'll do a post on it one of these days, but here's a link.

I designed the interior and did the production, and art-directed the final cover. Dennis Adler edits Car Collector magazine and was great to work with.
