The other day I went for a long walk along the beach road in case the hurricane hit today. I was pretty sure the damage wouldn't be too severe, but the flowers would probably have taken a major hit. I live about a half-mile from the beach, at sea level, so there's always some flooding with big storms. Apparently Earl is pretty much missing us tonight. We've had a little bit of rain, but no wind or anything even slightly dramatic. I shot 229 photos during my 3+ hour walk, and I'll be posting them here as I organize them and crop them to size.

Absolutely @#$%***! gorgeous !
ReplyDeleteLOVE the first hibiscus !
is that what it is? it was planted in the ground, like a perennial, about 4 feet tall, and the flowers are dinner plate size, absolutely huge. a couple of photos below that is a Rose of Sharon bush, which I looked up and is a relative of the Hibiscus for sure, but they're hardy enough to be perennials around here.

Love your flowers, Casey.
ReplyDeleteBut you know that.
Absolutely a Hibiscus ! And a very mature one - remember I told you age equals size - as far as the blooms go ? This was at least a 5 year old plant - you can tell on inspection by the thickness of the stalk. Now you know why I'm taking mine with me - starting over is brutal.
ReplyDeleteYOU MADE ME VERY HAPPY SEEING THESE FLOWERS TONIGHT. I LIKE THE FENCE PICTURE.SHOULD BE FRAMED AND HUNG ON MY WALL. MAYBE I SHOULD MAKE THE INSIDE OF MY HOUSE A FLOWER GARDEN OF YOUR PICTURES. JUST LOVE THEM.
ReplyDeleteGOING TO BED. I KNOW I'LL HAVE SWEET SMELLING DREAMS AFTER LOOKING AT THESE FLOWERS.
GOOD NIGHT YOU GUYS.
GRANNY
more poetry, Marius, please! i write too, but haven't in a long time.
ReplyDeleteGranny, I knew you'd like 'em! Sweet dreams to you too. I'm still waiting for the winds to come, but apparently it's too far out to sea to affect us in Connecticut.
Thanks, PX. I have some more photos of that pink Hibiscus I'll post soon.
That Hibiscus photo made me feel like I was in Alice's Wonderland. Unreal. Oh, and the picket fence... Always my dream to have a little house with a picket fence,a husband, two children; a boy and a girl, who never got dirty and their clothes never wrinkled. lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sunny day you had for your walk - the calm before the storm.
"Good night you Princes of Maine, you Kings of New England."
Cape Cod is going to get grazed by the storm, so no Tea Dance in Provincetown this year.
ReplyDeleteI was doing head to toe Lily Pulitzer this year. I'll just pack it away with the rest of my unworn outfits... the powder blue tux for my wedding day, the chaps for IML in Chicago. Sniff.
LOL Lily Pulitzer, the favorite of Villa Duchesne mothers. Villa is a private Catholic girls school where one of my granddaughters went to school for a couple of years. I think all the moms were blond as well.
ReplyDeleteBut I digress I think I did say goodnight already. The trouble with your blog is that I always need to take one more peek.
Marius: believe it or not I've never been to P-Town. I've never been to Fire Island either. I spent most of my "public" life in Manhattan and New Haven. and I have 2 outfits now. short sleeve T shirts and cargo shorts for March-November and long sleeve T shirts and long cargos for Dec-Feb, lol. most of my T shirts, long and short, are from a local seafood restaurant, Lenny & Joes. I have about 50 of them. most of them are black. and i have six pairs of black and white Adidas Sambas and one pair of black and white Adidas something else, don't know the name. I'm a uniform-type guy, lol, always the same clothes. and don't forget the rips and paint on everything, I'm clumsy and sloppy. : )
ReplyDeleteFlower, information ABOUT flowers AND poetry...
ReplyDeleteWhat more could one ask for??? :)
Night...
mare
X (may I call you "X"??) are you traveling or will you be moving? Hubby and I have moved quite a lot and I know from personal experience that it is brutal if that is what you were referring to.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your adventures this coming year.
mare
Mare, X is fine, or Keith if you prefer.
ReplyDeleteBoth. It is a "working" trip. At it's conclusion I will have determined where I am going to relocate. You can be certain it won't be Michigan - 51 years in one place is enough - and we have been in a depression here for the last 10 years. Time to try something new.
Keith, where are you going to look? I have moved a lot, too, but I still love the adventure of moving to yet another place! I have never lived in an apartment for over 6 years and most were 2-4. Our last house we lived in for 3.5 years and now, this month, we have been here 4 years. We expect to live here another 5-10 years and then we're planning to move to North Carolina, to the bay on the back side of the Outer Banks. I'm in New Jersey now. I have also lived in California, Washington state, Idaho and Massachusetts. :)
ReplyDeleteCasey, what beautiful places are near you! And I kind of envy you your "uniforms". ;)
All of the top contenders are coastal.
ReplyDeleteWashington state, Oregon, Maine, the Carolinas, & Florida. I love California, but housing is really to expensive. That's pretty much it, at least until I hit the road.
PX,
ReplyDeleteMAINE, YES, BEAUTIFUL
FLORIDA, NO, TO HOT
OREGON,YES, BEAUTIFUL
NORTH CAROLINA, YES, BEAUTIFUL
SOUTH CAROLINA, NO NO COMMENT
CALIFORNIA, NO, EARTHQUAKES
SO WHO ASK ME/
GRANNY
Granny, earthquakes are no big deal when you live through them all the time. I lived on the west coast for 34 years and you get used to them. Very rarely do you have "the big one"
ReplyDeleteKeith, your choices are admirable! I like all of those places. California's economy is in shambles though. Investigate the weather thoroughly before you move to Oregon. (That's "ORE-ee-gun" please). It's beautiful there, though. Florida really was too hot for me. Never been to South Carolina. Have spent vacation time the last 6 years in North Carolina. Love it there. The cost of living is low, the people are very nice and friendly, housing costs are low (except on the ocean--where you wouldn't want to live anyway due to hurricanes), it's very pretty and the weather is pretty good. Not too cold in winter, but pretty hot in summer.
Good luck exploring and it would be very interesting to know where you land! :)
