Life of a Sunflower

This photo shows stages of the sunflower blooms, from perfectly wide open at the top, through the aging process leading to the one at the bottom, frazzled and forlorn, yet still elegant in a decrepit sort of way.

The giant sunflower is bowed yet still standing more than seven feet tall.

  1. Looks as those the sunflowers mimic our own aging process..interesting. Most of the flowers around here are pretty well gone for the season...cold is coming very soon...and the grasshoppers have run rampant (take a quick look on my blog if you find the time casey, a couple posts down you will see my rhubarb in the post called "grasshopper lace"...I didn't try to do anything with them as they were taking down the tree in the small backyard and otherwise tromping through most of the time and this is the result...
Hope you are having a beautiful fall day.

  3. I've never grown sunflowers before, so I don't know how many seeds there will be. I'd imagine I'll try to save some for next year. i love roasting squash and pumpkin seeds, and sprinkle with a bit of salt, freshly grated cheese and peppercorns!

frazzled and forlorn describes all of my art, too. my art imitates my life...
